Living In The Uk-life Of An Immigrant (part 3) (976131 Views)

missjekyll: Immigration is desirable for every country. It's the type and levels of immigration that is usually the focus of debate. Mass immigration does not automatically equal massive increases in GDP, particularly GDP per capita, as the UK and others have seen. |

Goodenoch: That Vivek essay hey omo if it’s the uk the riots will start immediately. As far as they are concerned who the hell is Vivek to tell them what American culture should look like. |

Goodenoch: This is where critical mass becomes important. They now chorus he's Indian and America is for European migrants. Just typing his name in the search bar brings up alot of abuse. I wonder how many here actually think Vivek was saying the inconvenient truth. Hope Kemi is learning- for the inevitable day she's forced to say the 'truth' 2 Likes |

Hi All Has anyone been to Jamaica for holidays Can you give more info, how safe is it. I was looking through flights and I see stopover at Miami. Will that require a USA visa? I am planning for next summer. If anyone has a cheaper option but not Europe I will be willing to change my destination. Thank you. |

Is Starmer running out of ideas or simply seeking varied views? Time would tell. In addition to regulators (which can manytimes stifle rapid growth), his government needs to send similar letters to independent think-thanks and businesses who are drivers of this growth. Already home builders are telling him what they need to deliver his 1.5m homes. Imagine the impact of 1.5m new homes in 5 yrs. All the salaries paid to build, council taxes an land, levies on construction, company tax, and most importantly the housing and wealth thatd be generated for would-be occupiers. We know how the last conservative government engineered growth starting from liberalising certain regulations and selling post-graduate education internationally. Kier is still enjoying some of the dividends of such moves but he needs to work harder.

jedisco: what he said made me Ben Carson's book; 'Gifted Hands' where he said that Michael Jordan's picture on a popular brand product is becoming more popular as a model to younger genrations than an academic or a successful professor. Just like Vivek Ben Carson is another ardent follower of Trump. |

jedisco: I’m sure she is too. It doesn’t matter though. She eventually will, sooner or later. Vivek and co participated in the denigration of migrants in the name of “objectivity” and “speaking hard truths”, thinking their own status would protect them. Now it’s objectively clear that it won’t because the arguments about economics and whatnot were never the real issue driving anti-immigration movement (one guess as to what it was 😄), and what they took for allyship with the MAGA crowd was actually just them being tolerated and used. The hard truth is that no matter how highly skilled you are, when the chips are down and immigrants are being attacked, physically in England or digitally on Twitter, you’ll be lumped in with the “bum-wipers” and “low skilled” people. The hilarious thing for me is thinking about how Vivek and co must feel, knowing they cannot complain and call the abuse they are receiving for what it is because they’ve pushed the narrative that anyone who ho calls racism out is “woke”. Imagine seeing like Laura Looney that they were out campaigning with just a few weeks ago saying those things about him and his country (because according to MAGAs India is his real country despite being a US citizen by birth). 2 Likes |

missjekyll: Hehe... Trump has got what he wanted. MAGAs are still in processing mode. I just hope he doesn't do a Boris Johnson/Rishi on MAGAs cos they may not have a Reform to run too President-elect Trump told The Post Saturday he s immigration visas for highly skilled workers, appearing to side with Elon Musk in the roiling intra-MAGA debate on the issue. “I’ve always liked the visas, I have always been in favor of the visas. That’s why we have them,” Trump said by phone, referring to the H-1B program, which permits companies to hire foreign workers in specialty occupations. “I have many H-1B visas on my properties. I’ve been a believer in H-1B. I have used it many times. |

Goodenoch: I wish Kemi well- her own ers are still enduring a B-Jo induced post-Brexit PTSD. She would do well to be guarded in her statements as British politics is much more unforgiving. For Vivek, its quite sad how his base who hailed him for 'speaking the truth' are now debasing him. Unlike Elon who is threatening war, he can't even take it up to them. He's rather deleting posts. Elon has already started curtailing some on Twitter. They should migrate to Truth Social. You penultimate paragraph is the reason why we need to stop caring about somethings folks think . Nobody wants us here. We're here because we're needed. Its also the reason why I'm unapologetic about legal migration- each should do as they see fit. 4 Likes |

jedisco: Have you also typed in Musk's name to see how much abuse he is receiving? It's not a black/Indian issue - this is a fight of the Magas against anyone who dares to speak against "Great America". Both Musk and Vivek are speaking out specifically in favour of very highly skilled immigration. Trump has waded in to the H1B visa programme (despite scaling it back when he was president last time) which is currently capped at about 80k a year, so it's a very small proportion of visas they are |

jedisco: 😂 so much for ‘You’re now the media’ and all the ‘protection of free speech’ partygoers. I have always said all those free speech jargons is smooth to talk when the narrative is on your side. The moment it turns against you it will be your turn to go against free speech itself. Good luck to bro Elon o! |
Zahra29: 6:40pm On Dec 29, 2024 |
Goodenoch: Wishful thinking but I highly doubt that anyone could lump in Elon Musk and Vivek, both multimillionaires/billionaires, and Vivek a degree holder from Yale and Harvard, in the same category as "low skilled" immigrant labour. Especially when their president has endorsed both because he "likes smart people around him" and well, because they're extremely successful businessmen. |

Gift7428: It's generally safe if you plan to stay within the tourist resort, but if you plan to go sight seeing further afield you need to be careful. What region/parish are you looking at and I can come back with more specific information. |
Goodenoch: 6:51pm On Dec 29, 2024 |
Zahra29: Not Musk. Vivek is who I was talking about. That was clear. It should also have been clear why it's only him getting attacked on the basis of his immigrant background, and not Musk. As to whether it's wishful thinking, you clearly haven't read what Laura Loomer and other Trump-ettes have been saying to and about him and similarly highly qualified people like him from India in the past few days. 1 Like |

Goodenoch: Musk is also being attacked based on his SA immigrant background. He might be white but people have conveniently ed that he "wasn't born here". Both Musk and Vivek said the same thing in different ways. Vivek's post has drawn more ire because he openly excoriated American culture while Musk's posts were more emollient in clarifying that he was ing visas for the top global engineering talent that would help 1 Like |

Zahra29: "Mass immigration" what does that even mean? 780k in year just gone but still oodles of vacancies everywhere. Who will build 300k houses per year? Run theatres pretty much 7 days a week to clear backlog? Even if everybody out of work today were to train as builders and hospital staff,it ll take a few years to train them up? Who will do the jobs in the meantime? People from overseas ! I m off to fan the flames of the maga civil war. I want it to sink in well well. We need the heck out of immigrants. Plans need people to carry them out |

lavida001: There is still a black hole but the government is not building these houses directly. The government is making it easier for building companies by setting mandatory targets for counties, they have targeted areas with very high housing demand and thus higher house prices(these newbuilds will be more affordable and energy efficient), rewriting the planning laws to circumvent nimbies ( Not in my backyard people) who usually oppose building for often selfish nonsensical reasons. These companies will employ a lot of staff and buy materials for these. The staff ll spend their salaries paying tax as they do, tax ll be paid on the materials and services. Voila ,growth! I m just perking up my ears for the increase in visas for builders. I have a couple of able-bodied relatives in Nigeria who ll be delighted to help. |

lavida001: I have answered you. The government revamps planning regulations which doesn't require funds, building companies stump up the cash and build the houses. Everybody wins except the nimbies |
