The Lagos State Government has reiterated its commitment to translating State laws into Yoruba Language to enhance legal accessibility and inclusivity.

- This initiative would enhance civic participation and engagement, as citizens would better understand the laws governing them, leading to more active participation in governance processes such as public hearings, community dialogues, and policy advocacy.

- This initiative will also promote cultural heritage, as it would help to modernize Yoruba by incorporating contemporary legal terminologies, thereby enriching the language and keeping it relevant for future generations.

Organized by the Lagos State Law Reform Commission (LAWRECOM) in conjunction with the Bureau of Statistics, Ministry of Economic Planning and Budget.

Translate it into the three major languages too, especially Igbo. Igbos are 50 percent of Lagos population, Hausas are 15 percent and Yerubas are 35 percent

Indeed, the law governing a people should be in their language. English should actually be a translation meant for outsiders if we were in our right state of mind.

Since this thread is about Yoruba language and translations, what is the English meaning of the Yoruba name, "TIÁRÁOLUWA"?
yoruboid: 8:25am On Feb 18
As they should. Lagos is Yorubaland and language itself is dynamic and to speak

We must teach Yoruba as a compulsory subject in schools

We must speak Yoruba in our houses of assembly

We must translate public announcements to Yoruba

We must celebrate our cultural festivals with pride

That’s 100%, so there are no other tribes in Lagos? This is delusional. Yorubas are still majority in Lagos and as long as Lagos exists, its official languages will remain Yoruba and English languages

After translating to Yoruba, what’s the fate of the real indigenous people of Lagos Awori and Egun?
MadPolitician: 8:26am On Feb 18
Much ado about nothing..
Songs of inferiority complex.. Siege mentality..
I mean, do it already and stop with the shenanigans..This noise have been going on since APC came to power.

You can go the extra mile to tell all Yorubas in Lagos not ever transact anything with anyone who does not speak Yoruba. Put your feet down on that and stop disturbing us everyday with all these talk about the need to yorubanise Lagos state.

All I ask for is to have a new financial capital for the country in one of the littoral states. Calabar? Warri? Akwa Ibom? Lagos is tired of "accommodating" us , it is time the get tired of accommodating all the federal government largesse they corner every year..
There!

Best news I have read for years.

This should have been done before the military handover.

Both Awori & Egun are Yoruba - directly from Ile-Ife..

Not a bad idea, but how many yorubas will find it easier to read the law in yoruba instead of English?
They may also try pidgin English translation, a language almost everyone speaks.
