Finnish Parliament voted on Tuesday to approve a law that restricts the use of mobile devices by pupils at primary and secondary schools.

The new rules are expected to come into force after the summer break, in August.

The law does not entirely ban the use of mobile phones at school, and their use will be permitted in certain situations. But generally, the use of phones during class time will be prohibited.

Pupils will need to get special permission from teachers to use their phones, to assist them in studies, or to take care of personal health-related matters, for example.

The new law also gives school staff the authority to confiscate mobile devices from pupils if they have caused teaching or learning disruptions.

Late last year, Education Minister Anders Adlercreutz (SPP) emphasised that kids' digital skills will still be ed despite the phone restrictions.

I know some people will argue that it is wrong move because we are in computer age. Speaking as an educationist, the harm phone cause to the young generation is more than good. Too much screen time (television, phones, tablet, laptop) causes ADHD (Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder). This makes learning very difficult and also straneous for the teachers that handle such children. Let me tell you a fact, technology can not replace teachers, it can only aid teachers' work.

Under Peter Obi Anambra was leading in education, and even when he left office, they were still leading. That's a leader...he taught his people how to fish and not how to steal fish like agberos

Nigeria should do same for the good of our youths because as it stands now, the rate of it's abuse is too much.
