Mali’s military junta has dissolved all political parties in the country.

A statement read on state television on Tuesday said the country’s military leader, Assimi Goita, validated the decision.

Last month, a national conference of political actors in Mali recommended the dissolution of all political parties and the naming of Goita as president with a five-year mandate.

The recommendation led to protests in Bamako on May 3 and May 4, with several hundred critics carrying placards displaying messages calling for multi-party elections.

They also chanted slogans like ‘Down with dictatorship, long live democracy’.

Ahead of another protest planned for May 9, Mali suspended political activities across the country.

The move forced opposition groups to cancel the demonstration.

The dissolution of political parties coincides with reports of disappearances of opposition figures, as human rights groups said several politicians have disappeared in recent days.

On Thursday, Human Rights Watch said in a statement that Abba Alhassane, secretary general of the Convergence for the Development of Mali (CODEM), was arrested by “masked gunmen claiming to be gendarmes” on May 8.

The group also said on the same day, “unidentified men” seized El Bachir Thiam, leader of the Yelema party, in the town of Kati outside Bamako.

Goita first seized power in August 2020 amid escalating attacks from armed groups d with ISIL (ISIS), and al-Qaeda’s regional , Jama’at Nusrat al-Islam wal-Muslimin (JNIM).

The junta originally committed to holding elections in February 2022.

With the way democracy has played out in the past 25 years in Nigeria, it's looking like this is exactly what Nigeria needs.

I'm not a fan of dictators but if a nation finds a good president limiting his time doesn't make sense

If OBJ was still our president we would be a 1 trillion dollar economy right now

Traore hailers must understand that the worst government in a democracy bests the most efficient of military governments. It is the duty of the citizen in a democracy to use his vote through election cycles to shape and sharpen democracy to deliver the dividends it holds. If democracy is not working it is the fault of the citizen who chooses to sell his vote or is indifferent about democracy. In Togo I suspect the latter is the reason why their brand of democracy is hereditary!

Better. Before they gang up and plan coup. Politicians in africa are so terrible and greedy. They don't love their people at all. Now, I'm beginning to learn why the military were looking for the likes of tinubu in the 80s/90s. They had his records. His government is worse than the worst military regime in Nigeria. Na because dem never enter power, they'd hate masses with ion. You can't be accused of harassing female as military and you'd not face court martial in a military regime. If you're a civilian serving under them, you'd be sacked and jailed. No wonder Akpabio is a free man today. They kill those who voted them for fun today but they don't care. All that's on their mind is 2027.

Just yesterday, one lady was killed in Ondo by a herder who slit her throat open. The woman was taken to their uncompleted building for burial. I'm sure she must have voted in the last election. Such news will never make headlines. They've gagged the media and taken hold of many key places where their secrets could be leaked.

If you vote them again in 2027, your suffering will only continue. They don't send your papa

Political parties no longer work in Nigeria as politicians now assemble in the ruling party because of personal lucre.

The worst government in a democracy bests the most efficient of military governments. Can you make the posts you place here under a military government without consequences for your life and well-being?🧐. I think not! #bagaudakaltho

Obj remains the best 📌👌💯. My reasons are
# He used diplomacy for getting debt relief.
# Excess crude for savings.

Is there any mineral found in Mali?

Cos it seems any country that has solid minerals, the west will always want to poke their noses there.

Anything that will keep their country safe is fine by me
