Well, there are some they do throughout daytime in which they will announce on radio.

Around 2009 or thereabouts I was hustling somewhere in Imota, Ikorodu and back then they had one of their festivals that included oro. The curfew was all day; there was no human movement within the town all through the day. Only few cars driving past the express that ed through the outskirts of the town.

Maybe things have changed now, but I know back then that they do all day oro. Most people working outsite Ikorodu but living within Ikorodu either stay back at home or they don't come home from work till next day

Whenever I read articles like this, I can’t help but wonder - do the parents fantasizing about their kids becoming football stars realize people like this exist too?
For every 10 players who make it to the top and stay relevant, there are hundreds or thousands more who fade out, forgotten, broke, and broken.
The brutal truth? Unless you’re among the elite few, football is a ticking time bomb.
Look around - most ex-players are either dirt poor or struggling to maintain the life they once had.

Maybe Oba die or something big.

I don't think they shut down a town or place for a full day because of Oro.

I genuinely think it’s time the world dialed down the capitalism, just a bit.
We’ve become so obsessively capitalistic that it’s tearing at the very fabric of society.
Some see it, most pretend not to. That wilful ignorance? It’s not just irresponsible - it’s inhumane.
Yes, I’ve benefited from capitalism. Many of us have.
But let’s be honest: it’s enriching the few faster than it’s destroying the many.
Yes, it builds wealth, but it’s also gutting the middle class in real-time.
If this trajectory holds, the middle class won’t exist in 30 years.
And make no mistake, this isn’t just a local problem, this is a global emergency that needs a global response.

Where did you get this data from?

Do you know how many ex players we have worldwide?

Anybody who fails to invest in the future, would pay for it later; whether ex player, doctor or yahoo boy.

It has nothing to do with football

Jay Emmanuel has no excuse. He blew it. He collected about £500k per year for 10 years straight. Na long throat and not cutting coat to size cause all these

this is the thing

entertainment works in reverse

your major earnings are at the start of your career

when you are young and dumb. it is worse as a larger number of successful entertainers are from very poor backgrounds. so they have no one in their circle who really understands how to manage money. mike tyson, mc hammer - them plenty

professionals on the other hand - your earnings grow as you rise. so by the time you have the money you have the wisdom [well you are supposed to have the wisdom] to know what is important and what is not.

if as an entertainer of any kind you dont have a family member or friend who is anchoring you - you will also make bad decisions. na why you dey see ballers calling their mother mvp. watch Air and you will see teh hard headed person in MJ's life was his mother.

It is different for athletes. Firstly, they have a shorter career lifespan making money especially for players like Emmanuel Thomas that didn't really make it big. Secondly, the part of the human brain responsible for decision making, planning, impulse control does not fully develop until about 25yrs of age, by which time half of the already short career of an average sportsman is gone.

Conversely, for professionals like doctors and lawyers most of their money is made when they are fully mature and their brain is developed. They can also make their money for decades and can possibly continue to increase their earnings as they get older. Currently I have 3 colleagues who started practicing before i was born and they are still making loads of money despite swimming in it already.

The chances a sportsman will pay for earlier financial or fiscal mistakes are far higher than those of a lawyer or doctor.

the only advantage of having money when you are young is at that time your prick is as full as your wallet. well you will have fun - you may just pay for it later in ways you dont want to imagine.

Yeah. Cars, women, fancy gifts and trips seem irresistible at a young age.

A Sports illustrated article stated that about 70% of NFL players and 60% of NBA players face financial difficulty after retirement.

Another research showed that about 15% of NFL players actually file for bankruptcy after retirement.

This is what UN opposed ,their excuse? aids will not reach the entire strip

Hamas loots aid and sell it back to Palestinians just so you know, UN is full of demons.

Anyways this is the beginning of the end .

Tears?

The author of this article just Dey vex on top nothing . grin

The whole “it’s not for civil servant “ thingy is not that deep if u ask me. Someone selling exotic cars has his target audience and for sure his target audience are not civil servants if we are being truthful .

I don’t think any civil servant should feel down because of the guy’s adverts, except he or she has low self-esteem .

I mean why will I be pissed that someone is selling something I can’t afford ? 🤷‍♂️. Even people who earn way better than civil servants can’t afford most of the cars that Abuja guy sells ; so what’s the fuss ? I’m sure his target audience who are people with old money , politicians , flamboyant businessmen , etc see his adverts and buy from him

Like afrodoc said, Besides you having a very short window to make money max 15yrs when other professions can be making money for 50yrs. Ozekhome, Afe Babalola Doctors etc can make money till 80yrs while their agemates that went to sports would have stopped making money like 40yrs ago

2. Sport is usually physical, So any injury to your body means the end of your earnings, So the 15yrs projected career can end in 3yrs, or 5yrs or even 6months. A knee injury, you will quickly spend the little money on t so you can get back, thats how you gradually blow everything on it
Lawyers can got court even on wheelchair.

3. You make money when you are young, when you are not wise about how to manage money. Imagine person gave 20yr old izzou $1m. All the girls from Enugu to Imo to Lagos go don hear am finish. Plus 500 Timberland boots 5000 Polo shirts

4. The money usually do not keep up with inflation. The guys who played ball in the 80s and 90s didn't really make as much money as they are now. Players like Maradona, in the 80s might be making about $80K per year which is big money then but not comparable to the money in sports nowadays where a top player like Ronaldo Messi can make almost $100M per year

Take 2 people top footballer from Nigeria, and top Lawyer or Banker from Nigeria. In the 20s the footballer will be way richer, 30s still be richer but gap is closing, by the 40s the career person will likely have caught up, and till they die no way the football can meet up again

The average Nigerian ex footballer anything above 15yrs of retirement , is broke. Thats why they hustle for NFA jobs, NPFL coaching jobs before you know it they have started gofundme for health cases

Even a 4 year career at a top club generates more money than a career person would in 40years, stop playing. Footballers are just wasteful.

Freedom after speech is not guaranteed

https://nairaland.sitesunblocked.org/8428086/notice-removal-retraction-mr-bestman.uwadia

I think I get the reason behind this retraction notice.

Something tells me Sahara reporters in their article alleged the Uwadia person and the named company were complicit in the arms scandal but after several years there was no court pronouncement that confirms their culpability. The article was posted here and has since been cached on the internet.

I believe Sahara reporters had retracted the article but somehow a google search on the allegation always leads to Nairaland ; so they had to give our oga the option of either removing the article off nairaland or face a defamation suit since there's no how nairaland can prove the the content of the article is wrong.

I just hope our oga and nairaland get legal adviser because sooner or later , issues of this nature may lead to serious lawsuit in the future. Especially if it is involving foreign entities who have culture of suing first instead of asking for retraction.
