The total number of internally displaced persons, IDPs in Nigeria arising from insurgency and communal clashes has risen to 800,000, National Emergency management Agency, NEMA has said.
Director of Planning,Research and Forecasting in NEMA, Zanna Muhammed, confirmed this at a one day stakeholders workshop on response to emergencies.
He said,”the total number of IDPs in NEMA camps are 100,700; while those in the host communities are 701,448 ;bringing the figure to a total of 802,144 IDPs across the country, following the rising cases of insecurity and communal clashes in the country.
Stakeholders at the National programme called for a framework that could coordinate disaster management in the country.
