[b] Manchester City footballer has been jailed for a fight in the street which left a man with a broken jaw. Striker Kelvin Etuhu, 22, previously itted assault occasioning actual bodily harm and affray. He was caught on CCTV kicking Owen Fitzpatrick three times after knocking him to the ground with a punch outside Manchester's 235 Casino last February. Etuhu, of Abbeycroft Close, Astley, Wigan, was sentenced to eight months in prison at Warrington Crown Court. In sentencing, Judge Hale told Etuhu: "You brought yourself up by your bootstraps, you and your family, having come here from Nigeria with nothing but your talent, grit and determination. "That is a great credit to you and your family and you have blown it." The footballer is the younger brother of Dickson Etuhu, who plays for Fulham. Single punch His brother was in the public gallery with their mother, another brother and relatives. Earlier, the court was told Etuhu had been released from his contract at Manchester City, in part due to the criminal proceedings. Peter Cadwallader, for the prosecution, told the court the violence started from a "very minor" dispute inside the casino which ended when Mr Fitzpatrick, 24, and two friends were asked to leave the venue. The three men then waited outside for Etuhu and his friend Rico Richards, 27, to emerge. The court heard the three men confronted Etuhu as he got into his BMW car, which Richards was driving. Etuhu finally got out of the car and launched the attack. It is a sad development, because as isolated as the case may be, it will rub off on the British Public in a negative light and other Nigerian Athletes will be watched pretty much in anticipation that they will get violent. Etuhu may have his reasons to be angry and violent, in a Babaric society it may have been okay to launch an attack and break a man's jaw in the process, hell i'll kick him in the nuts too. but this is a Modern day Society with Civil Rules. Etuhu needs anger management sessions direly. Read the story on ESPN News, there's smthng dat the court is not saying, cuz he was going in his car only to stop & react, wat happened in d casino was nt mentioned, the lawyer sef na racist cuz he didn't do a good job @all bt sha, he caused it himself, to show dat he was half sane, he refused to drive cuz he was drunk, Anyway, he could ve done better, bt d guy get power gan o, one blow, three fall! |

well i never knew etuhu had a younger brother. he is truncating his career befre it even started. serves him right. reminds me what happened with bradley wright philips who was also in man. city before he was expelled after been found guilty of theft. |

The judge as right. This guy and his family came to Nigeria with nothing but his talent. He's a very talented sportsman. If one punch could lay the other guy down so easily, I think wat we have here is a talented footballer and an undiscovered talented BOXER.

I think we should cut the guy some slack. In the face of provocation even the judge may have reacted the same way. I feel for the guy. I really do. He has 8 months to reflect on his action but his whole life ahead of him. Steven Gerrard did worse but got less than a slap on his wrist as punishment. Oh well that what we get for our status sometimes. The Important thing would be to pick himself up after this fall. Wish him all the best. |
