You are probably using your Ufe language to interpret grin

Igbakeji and Ekeji are two different things. Igbakeji means 2nd in command. Ekeji means EQUAL cool

Slytiger:

The Alaafin has NEVER been called the OloriOba.
Igba keji Orisha? YES.
IKU? YES

But never the Olori Oba. it's not in his appellation. That appellation belongs to The Ooni of Ife. The only Oba in the SW called the Olori Oba is the Ooni of Ife.

Thanks for confirming that the Alaafin is ikeji Orisa.

While the Ooni is the Orisha himself.

Go to Oyo and listen to their talking drums and you will hear that clearly. Alaafin has always been called Olori Oba long before the current Ooni of Ife came with his own drama which he is entitled to, live and let live. Ooni can't come to Oyo and issue orders and Alaafin won't come to Ife and do the same. Even Oluwo has made that clear that each Oba has his own throne.

Lastly, Ooni was exiled from Ife for 13 good years by the Modakekes, so let's stop with all the exaggerations grin

You somehow think this is a superiority or some dick swinging contest. It is not. Yes. Ooni was sacked, just as Oyo was sacked by the fulani too and moved down to its present location from Oyo ile.
The dahomey also showed the Alaafin pepper. Same as the ibadan.

If that's what determines how senior a king is, then you must be joking.

Keep wasting your time. When people call Alaafin the Olori Oba as they have been doing long before your forefathers were born, you are free to go and challenge them physically or in court. Alaafin, Olori Gbogbo Oba from time immemorial Iku Baba Yeye Alase Ekeji Orisa grin

You are a clown. Unfortunately, I don't have your time tonight as I have to sleep. I will be in Oyo for the coronation.
Olori Oba and Ekeji below. Have a good night.

You are clearly clueless about the topic.

Ps: Ekeji means second.

I am not debating you, I am telling you what obtains in Oyo and the throne of the King of the largest Empire known to any Yoruba dead or alive cool .

Was Oyo Ile defeated and sacked by the Fulanis?
Big YES.
Out of fear of the Fulani, Oyo ran further to the south.
Oyo only gained strenghted in the 15th or 16th century up to the early 1800s.
Ibadan became the super power after. Going g by your little knowledge then the Olubadaan should be a bigger king that the Ooni, Oba of benin and the Alaafin since it was the Ibadan that stopped the Fulani at Oshogbo. The overbearing power of Ibadan further led to the Kiriji war.

This is my below on twitter hailing the new Alaafin, but as an Historian, I dont care about feelings but facts.

AI for Yoruba language, are you Gen-Z by chance? I am telling you what is, not debating you so stop embarrassing yourself. AI cannot capture the context here! grin grin grin

Eji/Meji - Two/Second
Ikeji/Ekeji - Second, Equal, Companion

Omo Meji - Twins
Ipo Ekeji - Second
Ekeji re n ko? - Where is your friend (equal or companion) or how is your friend (equal)?
Ekeji Orisa - Orisa's Equal or Companion

Igbakeji is totally different. Igbakeji is second in command and nobody ever refer to Alaafin as Igbakeji Orisa except maybe at places where they get drunk by 9am.

AI cannot capture that unless it's carefully trained on the context cool

You missed the point, again. Embarrassing pattern.

Even in your specific example, was Oyo ransacked by people that were supposed to be the subject and should see Alaafin as the Olori Oba? cheesy

Actually, he came to Nigeria as a kid with his father who was then the prime minister of Canada. His father was on official visit to meet with the then head of state, OBJ.

Coming as an ex-prime minister is still a big deal.

Sorry to say but he got it right. What they call Alaafin of Oyo is Alashe Ekeji Orisha, not Igba Keji, and the Ekeji refers to equality and more appropriately, companion. You are also right in the sense that Ekeji could be used for second in other contexts but not this.

That's true. Just like Oyo (Oranmiyan), Ijebu Kingdom (Obanta) developed independently despite cultural, historical and mythological ties with Ife. They were never under Oyo or Ife. For Ijebus, no king is Olori to the Awujale. That must be respected.

Superior from you? Because of the nonsense fabricated flyer you posted? grin grin grin
Go sleep OPONU cheesy
Till the end of time, Alaafin will be senior to Ọọni of ifẹ.
Amalekki:
He wasn't even making any sense.

It means Oranmiyan left Ife to establish Oba of Benin and his children continued there as kings, then left to establish Alaafin of Oyo with his childrens as kings, then return to claim the throne at Ile-Ife with his children as kings. Oranmiyan was Ooni, was Oba of Benin and was Alaafin, how could Oranmiyan be senior to himself. If that version of history is accurate then those kings are equal and Oranmiyan's children are ruling at separate locations and are equal. Seniority based on what, and for what exactly? Will Ooni go to Benin or Oyo and be issuing commands or what? At what point did that ever happen? grin

What does a xtian thanksgiving service have to do with the Yoruba traditional rites?

What did I miss?

Because a typical yiurba man is a Christian, Muslim and traditionalists in one body. They swing around depending on the situation. Ask Femi Gbajabiamila and Mrs Tinubu.
