My camry has no catalyst. So far, fuel consumption is fair and I always turn on the AC whenever I drive it. Mine has a sound engine. It was purchased tokunbo and it isn't compromised yet.

Not compromised yet and it has no catalyst?

Lol... and you now believe you've actually ought the original catalyst abi?

I'm sorry to burst your bubbles, that thing you bought is fake, not original catalyst. You can argue for all I care, yes, your beater will tell you, oga na original, oga leave matter. Na packaging. Go to ladipo you'll be amazed. Dont let us waste time on this subject.

Coming to your fuel consumption, the 2012 Toyota Corolla's fuel consumption varies depending on the driving conditions. In city driving, it typically consumes around 8.2 liters per 100 km, while on the highway, it averages 5.3 liters per 100 km. Some owners report getting between 8.0 and 8.5 KM/L. Mind you, this is the standard for the time the car was produce 13/14yrs ago.

Now, you're driving a car which is about 14yrs old,the mileage of the car and other factor will definitely affect your mileage. The lubicabts you use, catalytic converter thermostat among others affect your MPG, even, many of us don't know that the type of tyres we use affects mpg of a car, yes, it does. If you've winter tyres on your car (which is the most common) and i have all season tyres, my mpg will be better than yours in the Nigeria road.

Has your engine been worked on b4? Any Iver heating history b4? Has your thermostat been byed? What type of engine oil.do.ypu use? Synthetic, semi synthetic or 20w50. Is your in good condition, does your engine has clearance or dragging sound when accelerating? Is the engine check light on?

Your driving partner also affects your mpg, yes, some of you, drive aggressively, and step of the breaks suddenly and automatically, all.of these things affect your mpg.

Your newly bought camry is either 2.4L engine for i4 or 3.0L for v6. Also an old car, also, and old car, and I'll say it's from frying pan to fire.

If I where you, I would have gone for a more new model like the spider, 2014 camry.

Good post, a lot of people don't realize how one drives or even not filling their tires fully can change their fuel consumption.
My mom complained to me about the fuel consumption in her car. It was a 2 year old car. I watched her drive and wasn't surprised. She would speed up just to get to the red light. Told her to not accelerate and brake so much, keep a constant speed and coast into the light instead of speeding up to it then hitting the brakes. She did that and her gas lasted around 2x the time.

Do the simple things. Watch how you drive, don't accelerate just to brake, make sure your tires are filled, change your air filter and your mileage should improve.

Immediately I got my corolla, the first thing I did was change all 4 plugs and oil, I also bought a catalyst, but the mechanic that loosed my older one out, told me that my corolla catalyst was intact, so I kept the new one I bought, and until date it's of no use to me. I changed 02 Sensor after a scan displayed 02 Sensor as a problem of the car, I changed 2 of 4 of the coils. I don't accelerate hard, and lastly, my exhaust Isn't leaking, but still my corolla consumes fuel, with an average usage of 150km per 30 liters of fuel, whereas those using V6 including Mercedes can go 300km per 30 liters of fuel.

You want to sell the catalyst?

I'm done testing the Toyota Camry, I bought 25k fuel to test It, It went 55 kilometers before the fuel finished. Whereas on my corolla, 30k fuel normally goes 150km on average.

I love the camry, it looks bigger has more power, coupled with the fact that have spent a lot on it, I bought catalyst on it, I bought seat wrap, also used nylon to wrap it, I spend 54k yesterday to raise it, so that whenever I'm ing speed breaker the center of the car won't be touching ground, I bought a new compressor for the AC and also filled it with gas, I changed all 4 spark plugs, all 4 coils, I changed the engine oil yesterday, I bought new air filter, also jarbox oil and break fluid.

If I had known I would have tested the fuel consumption before doing all of these, it's such a pity that I wasted all these money all for nothing, now I intend selling it and continue using my corolla.
sorry to say, but you sound unintelligent and funny, its not in this life that a venza would go 490km with 40k fuel, you probably read a post of 4years ago when full tank was still 12k. You can check on google the expected factory gasoline consumption and compare to what your cars run at

Yeah. I mean the engine isn't compromised yet. I have only serviced the vehicle for over 4 years now.

Apart from the Catalytic converter, there are some other tiny but important components in the car that affects/impact fuel consumption!!!

One of the major culprits is your ECT (engine coolant temperature) sensor ... When u start the car in the morning, it tells the computer to pump fuel into the cylinder so it can reach an operating temperature (Open Loop) ... when the operating temperature has been reached, then it goes into Close Loop (normal fuel consumption) and hands over the fuel management to the Oxygen Sensors (popularly called O2 sensors)...

If that sensor is bad, then is stays in open loop forever, consuming fuel ...

Your oxygen sensors might also be dirty ... You are supposed to clean them or replace them the moment u get a used or tokunbo vehicle.

These cars are not built to consume so much fuel by design but due to our kazeems tampering with some stuffs to keep us coming back every week, dem go guzzle your fuel...

Your gear, if the oil is dirty/brownish colours and smells burnt, needs a change and that will also aid in it down shifting to lower power gear which in turn affects fuel consumption.

From my experience, these are the stuff that will affect your fuel consumption.

BlindAngel:
Hello Nairalanders, as y'all can see from my previous threads, I bought a 2008 toyota camry July last year, the fuel consumption was something else and totally out of this world, I went from mechanic to mechanic, to detect and get It resolved, but the fault remained the same, nothing changed. So August last year, I bought a 2012 corolla, but it seems It also consume fuel which I didn't realized until I stormed upon a thread here on Nairaland, I came to this conclusion when I saw a thread on Nairaland titled "how much fuel per km does your car consume" I clicked on the thread and read all the comments and to my surprise, my corolla consume more fuel than those using v6 cars, a guy commented that his Toyota Venza goes 490 miles for 40k fuel, which is approximately 42 liters, I saw another comment where a guy stated that his camry goes 270km for 20k fuel.

Whereas my 2012 corolla goes 150km for 30k fuel which is approximately 31L of fuel. This Is the 5th time I have timed and calculated it's fuel consumption, the first I got 150km for 30k fuel, the second I got 144km for 30k fuel, the third I got 152km on 30k fuel, the forth, I got 146km on 30k fuel and the last which was four days ago, I got 149km on 30k fuel. I used "km" because my corolla gas milage reads in km and not miles.

Nevertheless, upon realizing this, I got a Nigerian used 2008 camry yesterday, the engine Is in great shape "very silent" but my mechanic I went with to purchase It warned me that there's no catalyst on it, In which I still proceeded in purchasing it, as I intended buying a catalyst for it tomorrow morning. I'm yet to test it's fuel consumption because I'm unable to drive It yet because my papers are not yet ready.

I have not sold my 2012 corolla yet, I told myself that If it consumes just like the corolla or consumes slightly just above the corolla, then I would sell my corolla, but If it consumes far more than the corolla then I would sell the newly bought camry and continue using my corolla.

For those using the 2007, 2008 or probably 2009 camry, what's your fuel consumption How many miles/km does your car goes per liter

Below are the pictures of my corolla and my newly bought camry.

I can see that you are a car addict and you have enough money to waste. If fuel consumption is your major concern, just sell both your camry and corolla, buy only one foreign used Honda Civic and trust me you will have rest of mind. You can use the remaining change to do other meaningful things apart from cars.

Boss do you have idea bout Toks Toyota Camry 2012/13

I will keep singing it to ypur eyes. Don't be dumb. Even if u import a 2020 car,to nigeria. Nigeria itself is hell fire. The car won't withstand all the bullshit that comes with riding in naija, give the car just 3months,it would start shorting oil, gulping fuel,ac would pack up,electronics would malfunction, gear would spoil. The point is nigeria is a dead country and a 2020 car and engine is too fragile...if I plan to import any car. From 2010 to 2013 max. Old cars are stronger.. nigeria sells fake engine oils, fake gear oil, fake petrol, fake ac gas, fake car parts, just name it. I regret everyday being a Nigerian.

This is the truth. Most new cars from 2015 across all makes and models require fuel. Until dangote refinery came on board, we didn’t have fuel in Nigeria and those bad fuels make the engine of the car to knock and die before time. Where I live, when you go the filling station there’s 3 types of octane rating for the fuel and you choose the appropriate one for your car. Even the diesel has two grades.

Are your radiator fans direct? Do they pickup immediately you start the engine. If so, this is the main culprit.

Get it rectified to using a thermostat.

Guys I want to do an Abuja registration for my car that i'm driving in Lagos. A friend advised me to cause it's cheaper. My friend who advised me to is using the same but his based in Ibadan.

Will I regret that decision, considering Lagos stricter traffic rule, what will be my regret?

I saw you comparing the Mercedes benz with the toyota. Bro, ate you serious??!
Even my 2002 C200 kompressor with 1.8L engine consumes lesser fuel than the 2006 1.8L engine. Benz has a far far better engineering than many other automobile brand so.please don't even say that.

Even my current BMW 3 series, 2004 consumes less fuel than the corolla 06 and it's a v6, 3.5l.
Toyota no be motor, it's just the bandwagon effect that's affecting us. The day you own a German car I bet you will never want to drive a toyota again.
Even Honda does better in mpg than Toyota.

I know all of these because I've been driving for over 20years, I've worked as an engineer and have driven by myself to more than 20 states across the country, I have driven with Uber, taxify, Bolt, Indrive for about 4 years, and then venture into automobile dealership, so when we talk about cars, I may not know all but, the little I know, I know am well

Pls I need advice on O2 sensor in both downward and upward stream of 2006 toyota Corolla. Is the new one okay for replacement or I should go for tokunbo O2 sensor.
Thank youall

You seem to have a lot of spare money. Stop replacing car parts randomly. Get a diagnosis at an auto diagnostic center.
