The dirtier it is, the more they believe it is divine. Osun River in Osogbo is so dirty and irritating. I'm so sure it might even have a foul smell.

I wonder why we don have any archeological excavation yet on osun groove. We ve all read about the roman empire and the Greek classical history. How come we ve never heard of any Africa civilization history
My thought everytime I tried to reason back our sources, our forefather failed to documented their ways of life with archeological evidence, they're just ing down folklores or hearsay which has no physical evidence.

the source is celebrated as being the source, the one at Osogbo has a story of how the river saved the Osogbo people from invaders therefore it's being celebrated.

Note ,Osun river is also revered in most cities it es through like in Apomu .

Very funny....so demon worship is African culture? Maybe that's why Africa is still in darkness in many ways. Let me tell you, there's only one true God. People of all races and times have been searching for this God. Some ended up creating things to represent the gods of their imagination. In these last days, the one and only true God has revealed himself to the world through His son, Jesus Christ. In the time of ignorance, the world , including Africans worshipped idols. Fortunately the West abandoned their idols and embraced Christianity (Jesus Christ). But someone and some people in Africa are insisting on remaining in darkness, all in the name of culture. Why serve gods that do nothing but kept you perpetual darkness? Look the way Africa is today. Are you happy about it?

EKITI001:

The 2025 edition of the internationally celebrated Osun Osogbo Festival has officially commenced with a spiritually profound opening ceremony at the sacred source of the Osun River in Igede-Ekiti, Ekiti State. While the festival is widely associated with the city of Osogbo in Osun State, the river’s true origin and, by extension, the spiritual genesis of the Osun deity lies in the quiet yet historically significant town of Igede-Ekiti.

This year’s festival carries a renewed focus on reconnecting with the roots of Yoruba spirituality and heritage. The event attracted worshippers, cultural enthusiasts, scholars, tourists, and traditional leaders from across Nigeria and beyond, all gathered to honor Osun, the revered Yoruba goddess of fertility, purity, love, and fresh water.

Although the climactic festivities traditionally culminate in Osogbo, this year marks a symbolic return to the source, reinforcing Igede-Ekiti’s vital role in the narrative of the Osun deity and Yoruba cosmology.
In a powerful display of devotion and cultural preservation, traditional priests and custodians performed purification rites, libations, and sacred offerings at the river’s point of origin, invoking blessings for peace, abundance, and spiritual renewal.

At the heart of the opening ceremony was Yeye Osun, a high priestess of the Osun tradition, who underscored the spiritual importance of beginning the festival at the river’s source:

“Osun’s journey begins here in Igede-Ekiti. This sacred place is the heartbeat of her power. We are here to reconnect with the roots of our heritage and to honor the divine spirit where it first touched the earth.”

The 2025 festival’s theme, “Back to the Source,” encapsulates a growing cultural movement to reclaim and celebrate indigenous heritage at its most authentic sites. The Ekiti State Ministry of Arts and Culture, in partnership with local monarchs and traditional councils, is leading efforts to position Igede-Ekiti as an essential stop on the Osun spiritual pilgrimage.

“It is time the world recognizes that Igede-Ekiti is not just part of the Osun story it is the very beginning. We invite all to witness this cultural renaissance and partake in the spiritual essence that flows from this land.”

Following the opening rites in Igede-Ekiti, the Osun Osogbo Festival will continue with a series of events, including traditional music and dance performances, spiritual consultations, art exhibitions, and a symbolic pilgrimage procession toward Osogbo, where the grand finale is scheduled for August.

As this year’s festival unfolds, the re-centering of Igede-Ekiti as the source of the Osun River represents a significant milestone in preserving and honoring the full historical and spiritual legacy of one of Nigeria’s most enduring cultural treasures.

That's impressive. I NEVER knew that the source of the Osun River comes from Igede-Ekiti in Ekiti State until today.

However, I'd like the State authorities and the Ooni of Ife's influence to be utilized to do a clean up of the river water especially based off of what I've seen in past videos. There are water coagulants that can make the water cleaner and free from brownish dirt right from it's ORIGINAL source in Ekiti and in Osogbo where the Osun-Osogbo Festival takes place. I've seen the Japanese and Singaporeans use these same coagulants to clean up their rivers or water bodies and it works!
The Brazilian adherents of the Yoruba religion use cleaner water sources in Bahia and other cities in Brazil for their rites and it doesn't speak well that the main sacred Osun River at the grove in Osogbo looks brownish... (A symbol of dirt and impurities to me) with all the foreign adherents and tourists flying in from Cuba, Trinidad and Tobago, Brazil, the United States, Benin Republic, etc, annually to see a lifetime event.

I've given information on what can be used to clean the water in lakes, lagoons (Lagos Lagoon can benefit from this clean up as well), and rivers right ABOVE. So, instead of those who just simply criticize the river color WITHOUT offering solutions, this is my contribution towards seeing world-class tourist and indigenous religious sites on the African continent.
