Ooni: Universities should study how Wike became minister under Tinubu

Adeyeye Ogunwusi, the Ooni of Ife, has asked universities to study how Nyesom Wike, minister of the federal capital territory (FCT), made it to President Bola Tinubu’s cabinet.

The Ooni of Ife made the remarks on Thursday during the 2025 distinguished personality lecture held at Obafemi Awolowo University (OAU), Ile-Ife, Osun state, where Wike served as the keynote speaker.

The monarch expressed surprise over Wike’s appointment as a minister in an All Progressives Congress (APC)-led government, despite being a member of the opposition Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), calling it a “mystery”.

“For your career, I will particularly say that I give a very strong honour to the father of the nation, President Bola Tinubu. You belong to a different political party and yet are able to work together,” the traditional ruler told Wike.

“You are part of this government. It is still a mystery. I don’t even know how it happened. For me, it is something that universities should be studying and I mean it. It’s very important.

“Hate him or like him, what will be, will be. He (Wike) is a politician to be studied. I don’t know how he’s been actively relevant for 20 years.”

The monarch said that while Wike may have enemies, he has earned the respect of many because of his fearlessness.

Tinubu appointed Wike as minister in August 2023.

Before the election, Wike said he would not Atiku Abubakar, the PDP’s presidential candidate at the time, due to a zoning dispute and the refusal of Iyorchia Ayu, the party’s then national chairman, to step down.

Tinubu would later win the presidential election in Rivers with 231,591 votes, while Peter Obi of the Labour Party scored 175,071, and Abubakar polled 88,468.

Any how you conclude on wike, know that he's the best at what he does, and I commend him for that, as some people bouthing wike, they are just being pain, and some of us get the feeling.

What to study:

1. Benefits and strategies to lead when others shy away. While Wike spent money during normal days to keep the party going, Atiku and the rest went on vacation only to return to hijack slots during elections.

2. Negotiating and Barganing: He bargained for VP with Atiku and he lost. Then, he moved to bargain with Tinubu and won.

3. How come he hasn't been suspended?

4. His weaknesses: Talks too much and thuggery approaches.

Ooni is right. There is need to study him. And his face-off with his god-son Fubara.

Be corrupt, be shameless, be able to do bad things without fear and you are eligible to work for Tinubu.
Several thugs are holding positions under Tinubu. Is that what should be studied in universities?
When Wike dash them money they will begin to talk anyhow.

This Ooni is an embarrassment

Imagine the Audacity portrayed my a Man who witnessed the 2023 Presidential Election in Rivers State. Nothing is Special about appointing Wike as FCT minister after Delivering his Agreement with President Tinubu from Rivers State. In an Ideal Situation, Tinubu wouldn't have won even a Single Political Ward in Rivers State in 2023 but Nigerian Factor Made him the Whole State.

I really cannot believe how a revered first class traditional ruler would be saying this,,, this country is finished..

How did he become minister?

Against all normal electoral practices, against all democratic standards, against all societal decency, with brute force and every form of illegality, he "delivered" Tinubu in the Rivers Presidential election where over 80 percent of people who had the chance to cast their votes votes for Peter Obi..

That's what Ooni wants our generation to study..

Ooni was obviously carried away with what he expected to "get" from the visit of this money bag.


Perhaps Ooni should wish for his children to be like Wike.

Yes of course,!

Relative to what the black man calls development, he is doing a great job.

But he's not the only one doing a great job.

The difference is that his work is only in one state, another ministers are covering 37 states.

If it was possible for ministers like Umahi, Keyamo, Tijani, and many more to convert the jobs they have done in many states to only one state, you would see that many of them are better than Wike.

Bola ige was in another party but obj made him attorney general and minister of justice. Even yaradua appointed opposition as minister. Aisha Ismail was minister of women affairs in obj government and from an opposition party. So what is special here. Some people are just lousy.
