Former Senate Leader and Senator representing Borno South, Ali Ndume, has denied media reports attributed to him that former Chief of Army Staff, Lt- -General Tukur Buratai, narrowly escaped death as his convoy was attacked last Friday in Borno state by Boko Haram insurgents.

He was reported to have made the alleged revelation while speaking on Sunday on Channels TV monitored programme, Politics Today.

Ndume, in a statement on Tuesday, however, dismissed the media reports as misleading and misrepresentation of what he said.

The former Senate Chief Whip, in the statement he personally signed, clarified that “it was Buratai town in Borno state that was attacked, not the person of the erstwhile Chief of Army Staff.”

Checks revealed that the former Chief of Army Staff is incidentally from Buratai town in Biu Local Government Area of Borno State.

The federal lawmaker further noted that what he said on Channels Television while speaking on security was that ” Even two days ago, Buratai (town) was attacked in front of the operations base in Borno. But the soldiers stood up to them, but they (the attackers) burnt down some of our assets. Normally, these days, they burn assets like Mine-Resistant Ambush Protected Vehicles (MRAPs), tanks, and heavy-duty machine guns that we have and sometimes, they steal some of this equipment and go with it.

“The situation is getting terrible in Borno; the situation is bad in all the six geo-political zones, except in the south. Even south-south, we are grappling with economic sabotage like oil theft. Southwest is the only region that is relatively safe.”

The former Senate Leader appealed to journalists to avoid misrepresentation in news reporting to avoid the embarrassing effect on Politically Exposed Individuals and the integrity of such media organisations.

”I am surprised that the town Buratai could be misconstrued as the person of General Buratai, who incidentally hails from the town.”

I knew there was no way the former CoAS and Ambassador would be attacked on Friday, nearly costing his life and it wouldn’t be in the news until Sunday evening when Ndume was interviewed.

Then who is lying and to what gains? Excerpts from the initial reports from Ndume clearly read as follows:
According to Ndume, the retired army general and his accompanying soldiers were ambushed near a frontline military base.

While details on casualties remain unclear, the lawmaker disclosed that a fierce exchange of gunfire ensued between the attackers and the troops escorting Buratai.

“We are in a dire security situation. Just two days ago, Buratai was attacked at the front operations base in Borno.

“His team responded gallantly, but the insurgents managed to destroy several military assets,” he said."

When you talk too much in a bid to be relevant, this is what you get.

People starts seeing you that you speak from both sides of your mouth and subsequently, you become inconsequential.

Buratai is a town in Borno State. At no point in time did Ndume say during his interview that Tukur Buratai was attacked. If he did, post the video here with the exact timestamp. He was talking about the Army FOB base in the town that was attacked by boko haram a few days ago. Nigerian journalists are just sensational and lazy. What would Tukur Buratai be doing in his volatile hometown by this time in an army convoy that can repel attacks?

The Buratai attack by boko haram was reported by Sahara Reporters on the 5th of June, a few days ago.

When I read the news in Nairaland that he said the formal chief of staff was attacked I was little bit surprised because on YouTube I listened the whole interview with Seun so I thought perhaps I dosed of at some point but I watched it with my eyes opened but didn't heard that aspect.
The correction he made was what he said. Sometimes I wondered why people argued when what he said you can just browse it and watch it yourself instead of insinuating that he is a liar.
Some of you guys here I just funny set of humans. Go and from the actual video.

Soldiers stood up to them and they still burnt and stole heavy duty armours?

Óya, where are those Agbadorian e-rats that crawled out of their holes to feast on Ndume.

They will never wait to get the full gist of the matter before filling the whole space with their nauseating comments.
