George urged Wike to reflect on the transient nature of life and power, citing William Shakespeare's Macbeth: "Life's but a walking shadow, a poor player, that struts and frets his hour upon the stage, and then is heard no more." Chief Bode George, former Deputy National Chairman of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), has condemned recent remarks by Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Nyesom Wike, asserting that the PDP did not shape his political career. George described Wike's statement as a "disgusting abomination." Speaking on Arise TV on Wednesday, George emphasised that the PDP is a strong and enduring political party, likening it to an "iroko tree" that remains steadfast despite challenges. "The comment of the young man (Wike) because he is the same age as my first son, to me it's a disgusting abomination," George said. George urged Wike to reflect on the transient nature of life and power, citing William Shakespeare's Macbeth: "Life's but a walking shadow, a poor player, that struts and frets his hour upon the stage, and then is heard no more." He emphasised that Wike's comments were not only ungrateful but also shortsighted. The PDP chieftain highlighted Wike's rise to prominence within the PDP, noting that the party had ed his career, including his tenure as governor of Rivers State. "You are now saying that it is the individual that has the capacity but my young man, look, if you see any ballot box did you see the names of any individuals written on the ballot papers?" George questioned. George stressed that the PDP is a collective entity owned by its , with rules and regulations guiding its operations. "Our party is not like APC, owned by an individual. Our party was established with rules and regulations. There's no individual who owns this party (PDP)," he said. The former PDP deputy chairman emphasised that the party's Board of Trustees is responsible for ensuring that adhere to the party's principles. "We own the party, we own the assets and the liabilities of the party. When people start to misbehave, it is the responsibility of the of the board of trustees to knock everybody back in line," George explained. George's remarks come amid growing tensions within the PDP, with some calling for greater ability and adherence to the party's constitution. In response to Wike's comments, George chose to focus on the PDP's strengths and prospects rather than engaging in a personal attack. "I don't want to waste my time talking about Wike, as I had told you, that is a disgusting abomination... I would like to talk about our party - the future of our party, the strength of our party and the need to convince Nigerians that this our party is in a much better position to handle the problems that are plaguing every Nigerian," he said.Nigerian cultural tours George expressed confidence in the PDP's ability to deliver goods to the people, saying, “We have the records, the capacity to deliver the goods to the people of Nigeria.” https://saharareporters.com/2025/06/05/bode-george-slams-wike-denying-pdps-role-his-rise-calls-remarks-disgusting-abomination |

President Donald Trump has signed a new proclamation barring citizens from 12 countries from entering the United States, citing national security concerns. The full travel ban affects nationals from Afghanistan, Myanmar, Chad, Congo, Equatorial Guinea, Eritrea, Haiti, Iran, Libya, Somalia, Sudan, and Yemen. The restriction will take effect on June 9, 2025. In addition to the full bans, the proclamation imposes partial restrictions on citizens of Burundi, Cuba, Laos, Sierra Leone, Togo, Turkmenistan, and Venezuela. There are some exemptions, including athletes travelling for major sporting events, some Afghan nationals and dual nationals with citizenship in unaffected countries, according to the BBC. Trump stated that the measure is intended to prevent individuals considered potential security risks from gaining entry into the US. “We cannot have open migration from any country where we cannot safely and reliably vet and screen,” he said in a video message posted on X on Wednesday. According to the White House, the countries facing the harshest restrictions were deemed to have a “large-scale presence of terrorists,” poor cooperation on visa-related security measures, and inadequate systems for ing travelers’ identities. The istration also cited issues such as poor record-keeping of criminal histories and high visa overstay rates as contributing factors. The new directive builds on Trump’s broader immigration crackdown initiated at the beginning of his second term. On January 20, the president signed an executive order mandating stricter security checks for foreign nationals and instructing federal agencies to review which countries should face entry suspensions due to inadequate vetting procedures. This move echoes Trump’s controversial travel ban during his first term, which initially targeted seven predominantly Muslim countries and was upheld by the US Supreme Court in 2018. The ban was later repealed by President Joe Biden in 2021, who described it as “a stain on our national conscience.” https://punchng.com/trump-bans-citizens-of-chad-congo-two-others-from-entering-us/ |

The Chief of Defence Staff, CDS, General Christopher Musa, has laid the blame for the country’s insecurity challenges at the feet of Nigerians, lamenting that their silence is responsible for some attacks witnessed in most parts of the country. The CDS stated this while giving his keynote address at the inaugural media programme of the 2025 Voice of Nigeria Forum. According to the CDS, the failure of Nigerians to provide the military with community intelligence is at the bottom of the continued terrorism, insurgency, and banditry witnessed across the country. CDS Christopher Musa “It is the silence of citizens that enables terrorists to thrive. Ask yourself, who is feeding them? Who supplies their ammunition? Do you want to become a refugee in your own country?” General Musa reiterated the urgent need for national unity and citizens’ collaboration to overcome Nigeria’s security challenges, insisting that the country remains resilient despite threats and negative narratives. “Nigeria is blessed with abundant mineral and natural resources, but unless we work together as a people, we will not realise the full potential of this great nation.” He stressed that no one will come from outside to liberate Nigeria. “If the military fails, the nation fails, but Nigeria will not fail. “We live in a time where people celebrate failure. Some don’t understand that when the economy collapses, everyone is affected; they have failed too,” General Musa said. The Defense Chief further appealed to Nigerians to “ your military. Don’t allow our enemies to divide us. When we stand united, we defeat those who want to see this country fall.” READ MORE: We Have Bought Sophisticated Weapons; Don’t Worry About Terrorist Attacks—CDS Musa Tells Nigerians Acknowledging the ongoing security volatility, he assured that victory is possible through public cooperation. “Some wish to see Nigeria disintegrate; we must never allow that,” Musa charged. “When a soldier dies and you rejoice, when your nation’s security collapses, you no longer have a home,” he declared. He further reminded Nigerians that while the military recruits ordinary citizens, not saints, there are systems in place to refine and discipline them. “Yes, they come with baggage, but we have mechanisms to fish out bad elements.” General Musa concluded with a ionate call to patriotism, unity, and self-determination. “No country is without security challenges, but other nations are protecting their borders, their people, and their integrity. We must do the same. “Let us tell our own stories; no one else should define us. Together, we shall build a united Nigeria that works,” the CDS concluded. https://parallelfactsnews.com/cds-musa-blames-nigerians-for-insecurity/ |

In December 2024, eight months after it was incorporated, Panout Oil and Gas Limited was awarded two oil blocks—PPL 300 and PPL 301-CS—in what the Nigerian Upstream Petroleum Regulatory Commission (NUPRC) hailed as a “keenly competitive process.”Nigerian cultural tours On May 14, 2024, the Nigerian government made headlines when it announced the official start of bidding for oil blocks in the country as part of the 2024 marginal fields bid round. Speaking at the Miami, Florida International Roadshow in May 2024, Gbenga Komolafe, Chief Executive of the Nigerian Upstream Petroleum Regulatory Commission (NUPRC), declared the bidding process officially open.Nigerian cultural tours He also noted that although the exercise had first been announced on April 29, 2024, it marked a significant step forward in Nigeria’s strategic hydrocarbons development plan. Nigerian cultural tours The Bola Tinubu government called for applications to acquire 12 oil blocks and seven deep offshore assets. Interestingly, SaharaReporters has learned that just eight days before this official commencement of bidding—on May 6, 2024—a company named Panout Oil and Gas Limited was ed with the Corporate Affairs Commission (CAC). This newly formed company would later participate in bidding for oil block licenses in the same round and win two oil blocks. By June 12, the government had further expanded the offer, announcing an increase in the number of oil blocks available in the 2024 marginal bid round. In December 2024, eight months after it was incorporated, Panout Oil and Gas Limited was awarded two oil blocks—PPL 300 and PPL 301-CS—in what the Nigerian Upstream Petroleum Regulatory Commission (NUPRC) hailed as a “keenly competitive process.”Nigerian cultural tours However, a closer look at the bidding criteria published by the NUPRC has raised serious questions about how Panout Oil and Gas Limited—a company ed just two days before the official bid announcement—managed to secure two of the coveted oil blocks. According to the pre-qualification guidelines available on the NUPRC website for the 2024 marginal bid round, the agency stated, "Prospective Bidder or Bidder which is a newly incorporated company in Nigeria, shall be qualified with the information of the parent company or aggregate information of its shareholders and their s."Nigerian cultural tours Checks, however, reveal that Panout was ed as an independent company with the CAC, not as a subsidiary of any other entity. A review of the company’s beneficial ownership records in the CAC registry shows that only one individual—Alao Saheed Olatubosun—is listed as having significant control. In fact, the data indicates that he owns 100% of the shares, with no other shareholders or corporate ownership listed. This suggests that Panout is not linked to any parent company. Regarding the requirement for "financial viability assurance," the NUPRC listed the following conditions: “Statement of Profit or Loss & Comprehensive Income; Statement of Financial Position (Balance Sheet); Statement of Change in Equity; Statement of Cashflow; Notes to the s; Auditor’s Report; Management’s Discussion; Governance and Ownership Structures; Five (5) years of Financial Summary." It remains unclear how a company that was only two days old before the bid announcement—and just eight months old when the winners were announced—was able to meet the NUPRC’s financial and documentation requirements. Other conditions listed include evidence of a verifiable source of funding, which may be any of the following: Minimum average annual turnover of US$200 million for deep offshore; minimum average annual turnover of US$50 million for onshore and shallow water assets; minimum cash in bank of US$200 million for deep offshore; minimum cash in bank of US$50 million for onshore and shallow water assets; bank guarantee to the tune of US$200 million for deep offshore; bank guarantee of US$50 million for onshore and shallow water assets and a market capitalisation of not less than US$1 billion for deep offshore and US$200 million for other categories. The sole listed owner of Panout, Alao Saheed Olatubosun, is also the Chief Executive Officer of Blueprint Business Technology, an IT firm. A review of the company’s website by SaharaReporters found no evidence that Panout Oil and Gas Limited is listed as a subsidiary or of Blueprint Business Technology. SaharaReporters attempted to reach the Nigerian Upstream Petroleum Regulatory Commission (NUPRC) through the number published on the 2024 licensing round portal, which is said to be operational 24 hours a day for inquiries. However, the line failed to connect.Nigerian cultural tours As of the time this report was filed, text messages sent to the number seeking comment had not received a response. The United Nations Children’s Fund on Monday said Nigeria has beaten the war-torn Sudan to emerge as the capital of malnourished children on the African continent and the second highest in the world. The UNICEF chief nutrition section, Nemat Hajeebhoy, who disclosed this during a media briefing on the 2025 lean season multisectoral response organised by the UN Office for the Coordination of Humanitarian Affairs, said 600,000 children in the country suffer from acute malnutrition. “Nigeria has the highest number of malnourished children in Africa and the second in the world,” Ms Hajeebhoy said. She noted that half of these children are on the brink of developing severe acute malnutrition, making them vulnerable to death. Serigne Loum, a World Food Programme official, also mentioned that Nigeria had the most food-insecure people in Africa. This damning revelation came amid OCHA’s appeal for funding to tackle the recurrent food and nutrition crisis in the North-East states. Trond Jensen, OCHA head of office, said the UN agency required a combined $300 million to adequately address the crisis, noting that $160 million of the fund is necessary to tackle crises related to food insecurity, nutrition, water, and sanitation. Mr Jensen said, “This is the absolute bare minimum that we are needing. Of course it’s a paradox and a dilemma that we are facing that whereas the need when it comes to severe acute malnutrition has doubled in the year, our ability to address those needs in some instances has halved.” Mr Jensen, while appealing to state governments and international organisations to contribute to the response, said the agency was targeting two million people as far as the crises were concerned. Last year, the Global Hunger Index listed Sudan as the country most hit by poverty, followed by Burundi, Somalia and Yemen. Meanwhile, the World Bank’s Africa’s Pulse report of April 2025 showed that Nigeria s for 19 per cent of extremely poor people in Sub-Saharan Africa, while the Democratic Republic of Congo has 14 per cent, Ethiopia nine per cent, and Sudan six per cent. The World Bank also predicted a grim future for Nigeria, stating that more Nigerians will be plunged into poverty by 2027. https://gazettengr.com/unicef-nigeria-beats-war-ridden-sudan-to-emerge-capital-of-malnourished-children-in-africa/?tztc=1 |

Holistic action on security to boost food production —Rev. Ugolor, ANEEJ executive director “To a large extent, President Tinubu has shown that he knows what he is doing in the last two years. In of policy, we are unable to lay our hands on his policy on agriculture which is the mainstay of the economy of this country. But herdsmen have taken over all the farmlands and this is impacting negatively. He has not come out with a national response to this. There is also the issue of corruption that he must tackle. The East-West Road is still incomplete. Moving smoothly from Benin to Calabar is difficult and is hampering development in the region. In of the international anti-corruption campaign to return assets to Nigeria, the Minister of Justice is doing well. Nigeria remains on top globally in asset restitution. He must, however, amend the laws about the return of criminal proceeds to establish a centralized system for overseeing our resources and allocating the proceeds to our populace.” Govt should fix problem of insecurity — Osas Fred, Warri resident “The government should fix the problem of insecurity, as it has affected the prices of food items. I am in my 40s now; I have never seen the government as bad as this. It’s as if we have no government in charge of the country. Parents can’t afford to send three children to school at the same time. Salaries are so poor that even the minimum wage from the government is miserable”. |

Many residents said under the Tinubu istration, the average person has experienced more poverty and insecurity than under any other government in the nation. Some, however, said the president has done his best and identified areas in which he needs to do more. Daily survival increasingly difficult for Nigerians — Prof Okaba, INC president Prof. Benjamin Okaba, the president of the Ijaw National Congress (INC), stated that although Tinubu came to power with audacious pledges and reforms, particularly the elimination of fuel subsidies and attempts to standardize exchange rates, these have caused a great deal of hardship for a large number of Nigerians. According to him, “The naira’s depreciation, spiraling inflation, and high energy and food costs have eroded the purchasing power of the average Nigerian citizen. While the government argues these are necessary sacrifices for long-term gain, for millions of Nigerians, daily survival has become increasingly difficult. While some progress has been reported in counterinsurgency efforts in the Northeast, a plethora of incidents of widespread banditry, kidnapping, community clashes, and tribal invasions accompanied by large-scale death tolls have ravaged the North-Central. The judicial and legislative reforms promised are still unfounded, and the impact of their activities on governance and the rule of law is abysmal”. We through hell daily —Dr. Theophilus, IYC president The president of the Ijaw Youth Council (IYC), Dr. Alaye Theophilus, described President Tinubu’s two years as very disappointing. He said, “all the policies of the Tinubu government are anti-people, and what we are exposed to daily is threat upon threat by a government that behaves like a military junta. The president should use the remaining two years in his first term to correct the wrongs of the past two years, particularly for the people of the Niger Delta, who voted for him massively in 2023. We expected him, as a democrat, to be better than this. People are ing through hell daily, and this government keeps making promises without any idea of how to fulfill those promises”. Everything gone from bad to worse —Adima, political activist A political activist, Mr. Blessing Adima, said, “Everything has gone from bad to worse. As far as the APC government is concerned, they didn’t come to do anything; there is no area of the country that they have done well. Let us not be fooled by local government financial autonomy, the governors are still handling the funds of local governments and the local government’s financial autonomy has not bettered the lives of the people at the grassroots. They should reverse most of the decisions they have taken. They have borrowed more money than before despite the removal of the fuel subsidy. How come a government that paid subsidies didn’t borrow this much? Insecurity is worse, terrorists have taken over Benue, Plateau, and Taraba States. The president should employ the services of mercenaries who can dismantle those terrorists so that farmers can go back to their farms. He should reverse the draconian economic policies that are not working.” Related News 2027: The question Gov Eno’s sincerity addresses Why Nigerians are losing confidence in govt - Okwesilieze Nwodo Killer-voodoo men on the prowl, tension spreads Tinubu has failed Nigerians — Otumara Henry Otumara said, “Comparatively, former President Jonathan’s government is far better than his successor, ex-President Muhammadu Buhari, and the current President Bola Tinubu. Tinubu has failed Nigerians in the last two years. He should fix the power sector. The electricity bill has gone up, yet there is no light; we don’t see what we pay for. This government appears to be defrauding its citizens in a way. After all, power is a public service rendered by the government, so it should not be beyond the reach of many Nigerians.” There is hunger in the land —Akpan Pioneer president of Future Journalism and Media Studies, Akwa Ibom State Polytechnic, Ikot Osurua, Mark Akpan, stated, “I expect Tinubu’s government to improve the standard of living and focus on massive youth empowerment in the remaining two years. They should look critically into the agricultural sector because the major issue Nigerian citizens are facing today is hunger. Most families can’t afford two meals a day. Some even struggle to have one meal a day”. Tough and deteriorating economic conditions — Omare, ex-IYC president Eric Omare, former president of the Ijaw Youth Council (IYC), said, “It is difficult to say whether Nigerians are better off in of economic condition or not. This is mainly because the current government has introduced some tough economic policies that have made a significant impact on the lives of Nigerians. Though the removal of fuel subsidy is necessary in the circumstances, it has made living conditions tough for Nigerians. Therefore, I would say that Nigerians are ing through difficult and worsening economic conditions. I hope that things will improve as promised by the government. Government should introduce deliberate policies to cushion the effects of the economic policies on the people. The key focus of the policies should be to enable Nigerians to afford the necessities of life without too much stress”. Where is the gain from subsidy removal going to? —Regina, civil servant Regina, a civil servant, said, “I had thought that gains from the removal of the subsidy would be ploughed into roads, but this is not so. The rain is here, and as usual, the Warri-Sapele road in Delta State will be another hectic problem for travelers because of the deplorable state. It’s like the federal government has abdicated its responsibilities to state governments. We are not seeing the federal government’s impact in Delta State and several other states. The federal roads are so bad. Where is the gain from subsidy removal going to?” It is a mixed bag —Elder Ambakederimo Elder Joseph Ambakederimo, convener of the South-South Reawakening Group, said, “It is a mixed bag if we must fairly assess the two years of the Tinubu presidency. The policies formulated so far are far-reaching, while others can’t find any pathway forward. The reforms are excruciating, but we are also seeing a silver lining on the horizon in of increased revenue flowing into the coffers of the three tiers of government. But what is of concern is the non-commensurate infrastructure development across the country compared to the huge amount of money received from the FAAC , specifically the states. When we say there is hunger in the land, the question to ask is what the states are doing with the huge revenue they receive monthly. The states should drive agriculture and produce food for their people, not the federal government, which deals with policy. The assessment has to be somewhat interwoven. However, the president should, in the next two years, focus more on how to ensure that the funds flowing in get to the people, because as of now, that is not seen to be happening.” https://www.vanguardngr.com/2025/05/two-years-of-tinubus-istration-were-hungrier-impoverished-nigerians/ 1 Like |
