Ohaji Stakeholder Contests Proposed Inclusion In Orlu State (607 Views)

Engr. Victor Eze, a prominent stakeholder from the Ohaji district, has issued an unequivocal rejection of the proposed inclusion of Ohaji's communities into the new Orlu State. This stance finds staunch from the youths of the oil-rich autonomous communities of Awarra, Ochia, Assa, and Obile, who have collectively voiced their vehement opposition to this territorial realignment. Representing these self-governing communities, the youth collective has taken it upon themselves to apprise the public of their vehement objection to the proposal put forth by Hon. Ikenga Imo Ugochinyere, the esteemed member of the Federal House of Representatives for Ideato North and South Constituency. While acknowledging the creation of an additional state in the South East region as a constructive development that could potentially assuage regional grievances and foster a heightened sense of belonging among the Ndigbo populace, they have sternly repudiated the specific incorporation of their communities into Orlu State. "The notion of forcibly subsuming Ohaji into an unnatural amalgamation with Orlu is an egregious offense that we condemn with every fiber of our beings," asserted Engr. Eze, employing unambiguous terminology "The purported annexation of our communities into the Orlu zone as a senatorial district, an exercise driven by parochial political motives, has been a protracted ordeal fraught with anguish for our people." Engr. Eze and the youth forum have underscored that their communities have derived no tangible benefits from their association with the Orlu zone, a grievance rooted in the principles of self-determination and equitable resource allocation. "The Orlu zone has consistently failed to acknowledge us as a people deserving of recognition, exploiting our resources solely to consolidate their political hegemony," Eze articulated. "Our continued existence within this zone has yielded no discernible gains for our people or our land. We lament our forced severance from our true brethren in Rivers State." The forum has highlighted the absence of a shared identity and cultural affinity with the Orlu people, invoking the legal principles of indigenous rights and cultural preservation. "Our dialects and cultural norms diverge significantly from those of Orlu. Our kinship ties are inextricably linked to the communities in Rivers State," they asserted, underscoring the inviolability of their cultural heritage. Despite being the host to over 16 oil companies, a significant source of revenue for the state, the communities have languished in acute neglect, a violation of their economic rights and the principles of equitable resource distribution. "Most of our communities have been deprived of electricity, and our roads are rendered virtually imable," Eze lamented. "Yet, the resources extracted from our land are channeled towards developing non-oil-producing areas in Orlu, Okigwe, and Owerri, a blatant disregard for our legitimate entitlements." With an unwavering resolve, the youth forum and Engr. Eze have issued an uncompromising declaration: the forced inclusion of their communities into the proposed Orlu State will be met with unrelenting resistance. "We shall oppose this incorporation with every legal means at our disposal. If necessary, we will exercise our sovereign right to revoke the operating licenses of the oil companies within our territory, thereby depriving Imo State of its oil revenues. Our allegiance lies with our brethren in Rivers State, not with the state that has systematically marginalized us." This unequivocal rejection from Engr. Victor Eze and the youths of the Ohaji district underscores the profound dissatisfaction and the inviolable aspiration for self-determination among the oil-producing communities, invoking principles of indigenous rights, cultural preservation, and equitable resource allocation enshrined in international legal frameworks.

Kwontinue with publication of nonsense from anyone paid to deny Ndigbo a merited 6th state in the SE zone. Did the military consult him before creating the old states? |

"Our allegiance lies with our brethren in Rivers State, not with the state that has systematically marginalized us." ----- not truthful 13% from oil to Imo state was deployed to urban development of Owerri zone. Ohaji-Egbema remains rural. Even the magnificent ISOPADEC headquarters was built in Owerri but sidelined Ohaji-Egbema section where the oil cones from. So who has been marginalising Ohaji-Egbema? One of the essences of Njaba state proposal since 2005, now renamed Orlu state, is to halt the Rob Peter to pay Paul situation in Imo state. |

Bobloco: Ohaji-Egbema has never been part of Ikwerre in Rivers state. One Egbema part conscripted into Rivers state has remained a minority and marginalized. Who wants to be a minority in his/her state? The man sponsored to write this has pocketed his money from his sponsors. 2 Likes |

JagabanB: Military leaders created the 36 states through military fiat. In a democracy, everyone wants to be heard, but the majority carries it at last. Even in 2006 when this same state was about to be created, there were still some persons like this man. But superior intelligence from others in Ohaji-Egbema prevailed. |

The problem here is Orlu people are very greedy, can you imagine a set of people that want to rule Imo State forever. One useless group from that Zone called OPOCA threatening other zones to continue ruling beyond 2027 after steering the leadership of Imo state for more than 20 years now counting. The 3 Senatorial Zone in Imo State. Orlu zone has ruled Imo state over 20 years. Okigwe zone 4 years While Owerri Zone only 7 months Even the proposed Orlu state will still have more opposition from the communities included that are not from Orlu zone like communities from Anambra state, due to what other zones in Imo State are ing through from their hand as a result of undo advantage of having more LGA's than other zones. The fear of being marginalised. |
