The Federal Government has approved N30bn for the nation’s 30 universities of agriculture to immediately commence mechanised farming.

The announcement came with a directive for specialised universities to focus strictly on their core mandates and cease offering programes unrelated to their original purpose.

The Minister of Education, Dr. Tunji Alausa, disclosed this on Tuesday in Abuja while declaring open a retreat organised by the Ministry of Education for pro-chancellors of federal universities.

Alausa emphasised the importance of universities of agriculture owning and operating mechanised farming systems. He revealed that each university would receive N1bn as a take-off grant for the initiative.

Similarly, 18 medical schools will receive N17bn to train healthcare professionals, including medical doctors, dentists, pharmacists, and nurses.

Additionally, the government has finalised arrangements to provide startup grants to university students to their entrepreneurial endeavors.

“We need to look critically into your curriculum, into the kind of courses that your universities are offering. We have federal universities of agriculture offering courses in ing. That, we want you to move away from.

“You’re University of Agriculture, focus on what you were set up to do.
We have the Federal University of Technology offering courses in insurance. Your University of Technology, focus on that.

“We have several universities there. You are a faculty of agriculture, you don’t have a farm. What are you teaching? We will work with you, to encourage you to have your farm. Every university that has a faculty of agriculture, we now want you to set up your own mechanised farming and livestock production. And we have put aside about N30bn for that.

“We will give you N1bn. You will have to apply for N1bn to set up your mechanised farming in each of these universities. That will also help to contribute to food security in your country.

This President, one of his first pillars in his priority area is food security. We want you as the people that build our future, the education system, build value of future and freedom and opportunities.

“We want you to start using your power, your position to create opportunities for attainment. We are also working with a tech fund. As I said, we’re focusing on STEM.

“We’ve identified about N17bn of the high impact with TETFund. Our special high impact projects to 18 universities. This will be directed, focused on a medical school to specifically train doctors, dentists, pharmacists, and nurses.

“Eighteen of the universities will share that N17bn. But we want you to focus on these four categories of courses for doctors, pharmacists, dentists, and nurses.”

Alausa said the Federal Government was also working with a green energy company to launch a transport initiative tagged Renewed Campus Transportation.

He said, “We’ve identified one each university as a pilot in each geopolitical zone. We’re doing something what we call Renewed Campus Transportation. We’ll give 25 electric tricycles to those universities for them to use. The student will put it to the student union. They will operate it on a low payment platform.

“Probably N15 for each drop for each of the universities. That as well we’re working on. We also are going to roll out student startup innovation and entrepreneurial grants that we will give to students who are very innovative.

“We’ll give this grant to them to help them unleash the innate potential that they have in them. So our focus is to give the youth the they need to be able to contribute to this country. We’re uniquely privileged today.”

Mere 30 billion 1 billion per university

Less that 600,000 dollars? ... Can that even buy a good big tractor with full components?

How many irrigation system can that even cover?.

That can't possibly buy a cassava harvester maybe rice harvester

But you are using 15 trillion to build a road that adds no value to our economy

When it comes to financing useless project they hope to steal from they see 100s of billions and trillions to use
But when it comes to ing farmers, SMEs, MAN boom they start dropping 20 billion like it's big money

This illiterate is downplaying a N30billion investment to Agric Universities, even comparing the investment to a road project that cut across 8 states of the country. Who do you like this?.
This is just a gesture from the FG to enable universities make good use of their land for the purpose of food security. These universities are not meant to feed the whole of the country.

All this Garbage you typed is based on the LIE that the Coastal Highway “adds no value” to the economy, and that it cost Nigeria “15 trillion”, since a full 75% of the cost is corporate financed on a Build-Operate-Transfer arrangement, with the FG paying 25%.

Illiterate, what's the size of the Universities' land that will be used for cultivation?.. Do you want to compare them to the hectares of land in Niger, Kebbi, Maiduguri, Taraba, etc that the Government has already invested for cultivation and harvest.

Even that 1 billion, how will ipob allow your university of agriculture to work in the farm when ipob can go and set it on fire ? All school of agriculture in the south east should be further cut until security is sure. Government should check if they have farms already that are never in the vicinity of ipob before releasing the money to them. All the bushes are already taken over by ipob using them for cannibalism, kidnapping operations, cultism and abode of living since they are brainless that they can no longer leave with normal human beings. Ipob and their will blame government for anything, it is in them. Their prime minister could not even to empower Biafra farmers, sponsor Biafran education or small businesses from donations and content creation proceeds; ipob-s are only good at killing igbos from Igbo donations

The only thing a roadside engineer is good at is bIabbing, have you seen a society in Nigeria that invested #1b in agriculture and didn't get huge turn out from it?
U Obidents are really pàthetic, ur state in worth how much in of agriculture.

If the schools come out to tell you that they used the whole money to buy tractors, irrigation system etc, same u will come out to say the equipments are not worth that amount.
Use ur bràîn instead of talking always.

#10m is big money in agro business, I'm sure you don't even know anything about agro business.
So many poultry farms run on less than #10m
Most run on less #100m.
How many agro businesses in Nigeria are worth #1b, how many can u name?

U don't even have #2m worth of agro business and u are making noise about something u have no idea about.

A standard poultry farms takes up too 30,000 birds by pan and the construction of such is 600k dollars the last time I check

Setting up a standard refrigerated slaughter house for chicken would run up back a few million dollars

Mechanized farming is not cheap ... The key word is mechanized farming

Firstly the key word here is mechanized farming not just farming ...i don't expect someone of your level to know the difference

It's impossible to start a mechanized farming even if it's for grass for 600k dollars impossible

You don't buy all your machines in one day in mechanized farming, u don't need every type of machine involved in mechanized farming before starting, you buy machine that you need.
If the schools are not interested in dry season farming, why will they need irrigation system?
The money is good for starters, #1b can start mechanized farming right in Nigeria and you will get a very good start.

My level is actually in mechanized farming, meanwhile I'm sure you don't even do local farming before blabbing about mechanized farming.
We send truck load of maize down south, every process involved used machines and it's not worth #1b, I did this particular project with a young man from Benue here in the north, mechanized farming for maize, soyabeans, guinea corn, millet, etc with #1b, you will get a very very good start.

Mechanized farming is based on the use of machineries to farm instead of using manual labor, a 10 hectares is a mechanized farm if u use machines instead instead of manual labor, a 500 hectares using manual labor is not a mechanized farm.
