Good Afternoon everyone. I'm getting ready for the 2025 planting season to farm habanero pepper and would like to know the most effective way to do it. It's my belief that, the right knowledge at the right time is crucial. I believe this knowledge will also be beneficial to all pepper farmers on this forum who are not getting it right. I will like to know things like: 1. The right pre-emergent herbicide(s) to use on the farm 2. How to time application of the suggested herbicide to ensure safety of the plants after transplanting 3. The best fertilizers/ manure to use for enhanced harvest 4. The best insecticides and fungicides to use...and how to time application effectively. Thanks in anticipation. 3 Likes 1 Share |

I think it all depends on the kind of farming.(whether it's dry season farming where you need irrigation or raining season) what that means is, if it's raining season farming you want to go into, the best time (in my opinion) would be when rain is falling regularly. In most parts of Nigeria...and as forecasted, raining season will be back in March. |

Mariangeles: Lo, Just seeing the mention, I know nothing. I still get people i look up to too. @smug4real, Are u doing irrigation fed or rain fed? Are u using hybrid or random seeds? Answers may help to provide more help. To your questions... 1. The right pre-emergent herbicide(s) to use on the farm From my experience , pre emergent herbicides tend to stress transplanted seedlings, I don't use it for fragile seedlings like pep, tom and cukes, I use it for tougher crops. 2. How to time application of the suggested herbicide to ensure safety of the plants after transplanting What I normally do is, make your ridges ready, then do your nursery. Pepper takes min of 6weeks in the nursery, by them all seeds of the weed inside your ridges would have sprouted. Then, use post emergent herbicides (not pre-emergent) to kill them, wait for few days and do your transplanting . 3. The best fertilizers/ manure to use for enhanced harvest Manure: for organic, chicken is the best, it must be well cured/decomposed. Cow dungs are usually filled with undigested grass seed that will germinate later and give u some headache. Fertilizer: for inorganic, SSP, potassium nitrate/MOP, Epsom, NPK 15 15 15, etc. Don't use urea. 4. The best insecticides and fungicides to use...and how to time application effectively. Get 2 insecticides with different active ingredients, rotate them weekly. The interval may be shorter/longer depending on rainfall. Fungicide: same as insecticide. 1 Like |

Then, use post emergent herbicides (not pre-emergent) to kill them, wait for few days and do your transplanting . I intend to start nursery on or before 20th January 2025 so as to plant in march. Please I would like to get this clear: are you saying I should wait for the rains to come back fully in March then wait for weeds to grow on the piece of land, then kill them off with post emergent herbicides? If yes, can I use glyphosphates (Force up, glyphotex, etc)? Can I use a combination of Force up and atrazine for that purpose or Force up or glyphotex only is okay? I will appreciate if you can recommend herbicides for me. I'm a first timer. 3. Smug4real:for the pre emergence herbicide you can use force top by jubaill agrotec and wait for one week before transplanting seedlings to avoid photo toxic |
