Borno State Governor, Babagana Zulum, has warned farming and fishing communities in Baga against collaborating with Boko Haram insurgents.

The governor described such as a significant threat to peace and stability in the region.
Zulum gave the warning during his address to residents at the palace of the district head in Baga town on Wednesday.

“I urge the people of Baga and surrounding communities to conduct their farming activities only within areas approved by the military,” he said.

The governor emphasised the importance of complying with guidelines set by the Nigerian military and the Borno government.

He stressed that “while we agricultural activities, it is critical that our people comply with the guidelines to ensure their safety and the stability of the state.”

The governor’s visit came on the heels of a recent attack by the Islamic State of the West African Province in Dumba, the Kukawa Local Government Area of the state.

The attack resulted in the killing of 40 farmers. Zulum condemned any form of collaboration with insurgents, deeming it “unacceptable and detrimental to ongoing efforts to restore stability in the state.”

In a bid to boost agricultural productivity, the governor inspected a 2,000-hectare solar-powered surface irrigation system at Mile 3 in Baga.

He hailed the project as a milestone in boosting farming activities and achieving food security in Borno and beyond.

According to him, the project aligns with President Bola Tinubu’s vision of ensuring food sufficiency and reducing production costs.

Zulum announced plans to utilise the irrigated land for cassava cultivation after the wheat harvest, leveraging the solar-powered system to reduce operational expenses.

“This initiative will transform agricultural production in Borno State and strengthen our comparative advantage in wheat and cassava farming,” he said.

The governor, who received a warm reception in Kukawa town, pledged to accelerate reconstruction efforts in education, healthcare, and infrastructure.

He also commended the troops of the 101 Special Forces Battalion for their gallantry and assured them of continued from the state government.

Zulum was accompanied by of the National Assembly and top government officials.

It is the locals themselves making the job tougher for the military. Nigeria is such a unique country where people are more sympathetic to terrorists than their country.
May God bless Nigeria.

Until the people are ready to end insurgency, the army will just be wasting their time and resources.

Hmm...as much as Zulum is in his own rights to make this demand,he should be aware that the fishermen and farmer have no alternative but to be subservient to bokoharam because successive istrations have failed to protect them!

Some individuals in security agencies are even informants to bokoharam...that's why the war against the terrorist hasn't been successful!
Who in those war torn terrorist states in the north will give the army any info when the bad elements in d army will give a to Boko boys who will eventually slaughter that family!

The farmers are torn between the devil(boko haram)and the deep blue sea(military).

The boko haram would tax the farmers and the fishermen to farm or fish while the military would tax them (farmers) to bring in the produce from the farms.

Imagine cases where the military forcefully buy fish from the fishermen at their (military) price, to transport to other parts of the country.

This is what I have been saying all along

Most Notheners are sympathetic to this bad guys.
I have always said this, they just see this guy's as their own level of cultist, only on more steroids.

If not why should criminals be demanding amnesty instead of restitution.

So he is omnipresent.

People enh.

Boko Haram predates Zulu by more than 12 yrs.
So how could his not doing his job have stopped farmers and fishermen from liaising with Boko Haram if they had started liaising with them before he started his job.

Lol, I’m more learned, more traveled and more aware of the situation than you can ever be.

Has it ever occurred to you that the farmers and villagers paying tax to Boko haram and bandits are doing so not because they are generous but because they want to live the next day.

Why don’t you move closer to Lake chad basin and lead the villagers on how to be defiant to BH, and let’s see if you still have your head to type this nonsense by June 🤣

Easier said than done!

These farmers don’t work with BH willingly, they are enslaved and forced to pay tax to BH under the threat of death.

BH has been known to enter these villages and kill everyone overnight.

Until the Government provides adequate 24hr security, I doubt ordinary speech would make any difference.

This is the same speech by the Nigeria Police telling families not to pay ransom if their loved ones are kidnapped. Everyone know that paying ransom is bad and encourages these people despite that, many go into debt, sell valuable properties on the cheap to pay these ransom and this will not stop until the Government take her responsibility for security sacred.

See this illiterate, does it makes sense to subject yourself to terrorists than report them to the security?
