The Trade Union Congress (TUC) has waded into the trending issue of a corps member who allegedly got threatened by officials of the National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) for criticising the President Bola Tinubu istration.

TUC President, Festus Osifo, said that the corps member spoke out of frustration, advising the government not to go after her but to be tolerant of critics.

The Lagos-based NYSC member, Ushie Uguamaye, had taken to TikTok to criticise Tinubu’s government over hardship Nigerians face as a result of the istration’s economic reforms.

Her video went viral and got the attention on NYSC officials whom she later accused of calling her and issuing a threat to her to delete the video. NYSC is yet to release an official statement regarding the issue.

But the TUC boss said, “They (government) have to develop this resilience to understand that people are frustrated, people are hungry, people are tired. So, if they decide to vent, I strongly believe that the government should not personalise it and come after such individuals.

“Imagine a young lady carrying out her NYSC function, what does she really have to do to bring down government? So, it is about personal frustration that she has aired.

“So, I think that the government has to persevere much more, they have to be more tolerant, and they have to have this deep level of patient with Nigerians because people are ing through a lot as it stands today.”

The TUC boss, however, advised critics to always criticise the government within the expected norm and with some level of decorum.

In a statement released earlier on Sunday, Amnesty International also condemned the alleged threats and intimidation being faced by Lagos-based corps member.

It said that the Federal Government must stop threatening individuals and groups who criticise the current istration.

“The Nigerian authorities must stop responding with violence and threats to individuals and groups who express dissenting opinions — in utter disregard for Nigerian constitution and international law. Holding and voicing dissenting views is not a crime,” the organisation in a statement.

All APC knows how to do is to threaten and oppress critics.

APC idiots are quoting nysc bye laws which stated "partisan politics". Of course they are empty brains who don't know what that phrase means.

A party of wicked and heartless demons full of those who think it's all about my tribe vs their tribe. That girl has become a hero who will never have to look for job. She is now far better than those sycophants and slaves threatening her.

I take exception to the "Lagos is smelling" part though

I agree with the sentiments of the corps member but I don't condone indiscipline. She must have done orientation and read the NYSC bylaws. Gen Z act without thinking, they think the social media is another universe that exists outside the real world. As a NYSC member, you are a civil servant for one year. That government can use you how they want for one year. If they want to draft you to fight another country, you have no choice as a corps member. For now, Tinubu is your boss as a NYSC member and you do not have the authority to speak on some things while you are still in service. Know this and know peace, this is how you start learning things as an adult. You need to read the rules of the game before playing in it.

Not take part in partisan politics.
Any member who takes part in partisan politics is liable to extension of service for a period not less than three (3) months without pay.

Not address the press on any policy issue without the prior written consent of the State Coordinator.
Any member who addresses the press on any policy issue without the written consent of the State Coordinator shall be tried by the Camp Court and, if found guilty, be liable to extension of service for thirty (30) days on half pay.

Oga, what is "partisan politics" ?
So tinubu is nysc boss, how many time has he come out to give statement when one of his workers is kidnapped or killed?

So according to people like you, discipline means dying in silence.

You don't argue with sentiments. Have you served before? How many civil servants have you seen publicly criticizing the government? Don't misguide these young people to their downfall. If she was not a corps member, no problem but as someone who is serving, she should know about how things work in real life.

Now that she said what majority of Nigeria are afraid to say ,did she die? And even if the useless NYSC decide to stop her from serving, does it stop her from becoming who she wants to be? We are not in military regime.. That you are a coward doesn't mean everyone else should be. During Gej we saw how this Tinubu, Buhari were in forefront protest against this rubbish they are doing now. But since they came into government, they stopped all form of protest, using the security to intimidate, kill and frustrate unarmed protesters. Nigerians doesn't even want to much, but just a better nation, and able leaders.. You come here dey talk about some useless rules, that the NYSC bosses doesn't even follow.. This one below,I am sure it's also one of the rules in NYSC.. Rubbish!

Your 3rd question contradicts your first question. Let's be objective, what is partisan politics??
Let's focus on the written laws and not what other civil servants do or don't do.

In your last sentence, you are asking her to know that in real life, people keep quiet and refuse to talk about government oppression . What a sound advice

Civil service is optional, nysc is mandatory.
Downfall? That girl is now the envy of many corpers. I have even seen Nigerians volunteering to give her a job, or to fly her abroad.
Don't you think her application for asylum will fly? So much for a downfall

On a serious note, personally I don't like this present tenure... Let's put sentiment aside, this is a corp member and the president is like your boss... I don't know what runs in the mind of this gen zs..

So, let's say you're employed, you will ridicule your boss on social media for bad management?

She doesn't even know what an insult is?

I think employers should be checking the social media of those they'll be employing.. because for me this is a red flag.

No respect... Remove the tag president, the man is old enough to be your grandpa.

Bro are you educated? The bylaws says that they cannot play partisan politics, did it specifically say they cannot criticize the government?

Jesus. With the number of foolish people in this country, this country is really irredeemable.

She is becoming a celebrity and gonna get a wonderful job soon while you stay here praising a drug lord that used ill-gotten wealth to buy his way into politics where he continued his corrupt lifestyle of looting, stealing and impoverishing Nigerians through foolish policies, heavy taxation and levies.

Sir, I am not here to win arguments. Time will tell. Internet thrives on sensation and that will fizzle out after some time. Did she break the NYSC bylaws or not? That's the crux of the matter. I don't like Tinubu's government but there is a method to every madness. Do you think soldiers who are feeling the heat are dumb for not talking about the hardship? Good for her. Time will tell.

Jesus. With the number of foolish people in this country, this country is really irredeemable.

She openly called Tinubu a “terrible leader” and questioned the government’s failure to address poverty, poor infrastructure, and the unbearable stench in Lagos, where she is serving.

Those who resort to insult often type with emotions. Ignore my comments if it is foolish to you. Take time to analyze objectively instead of sentiments. I replied someone else that I don't like Tinubu's government, I don't even need to tell you that but that's the unfortunate level we have gotten to where people cannot see issues for what they are. While I don't like his government, I also know that Tinubu is one person, he will come ND go but Nigeria will remain. I won't hate everything about him just because I don't him neither will I everything about someone I like just because na my guy. If I see what is wrong, I point it out even if it's me that's wrong. That is how you analyze issues, no one is perfect after all. In my other posts, you can see me calling out this government but in this one, based on what I read and the people involved, she was wrong. If you destroy institutions because of one person, who is the fool? If she released the video after she had 'ed out', that is fine but since she wants to see the consequences while she's still serving the government, let her enjoy her newfound fame.
