The desire for protection is one of man’s greatest desires: protection from attacks, hunger, poverty, lack, evil forces, negative events etc.

Majority of the things we do while alive is to protect ourselves. Here is what I found;

“Your insight and understanding will protect you” Prov. 2:11 GNT

I also love how this version puts it;

“Discretion will preserve you, understanding will keep you” Prov. 2:11 NKJ

I have come to realize that the greatest form of protection or preservation you can get after God, will come directly from how much you are able to understand things/actions, and their consequences.

Nothing can destroy a man more than he can destroy himself.

Discretion and understanding will make you see the consequences of every action you take before you even take the actions. It restrains you from taking unnecessary leaps that are bound to destroy you.

People without discretion are like toddlers that see a burning flame from a candle and goes right to put their finger in.

The truth is, there’s a limit to how much protection you can receive from God. Wherever that limit stops, your discretion and understanding will take it from there.

If you keep doing foolish things and count on all-round protection from God, you’ll be disappointed.

There’s a place for God’s primary protection, every human enjoys this.

You have additional protection if you love God and subscribe to his protection services, and then there’s a place for your discretion and understanding.

God does not interfere in the third category because it comes as a result of your ability to make the right choices and use your faculty of discretion and understanding.

The possibilities of understanding are boundless; you see things beyond that of an ordinary man in the streets.

You are able to see through smiles, laughter, eye s/signals, ‘causal’ statements, walks, and gestures.

How can you develop this faculty of discretion and understanding?

· Pray for the spirit of discretion and understanding
· Study the scriptures
· Meditation
· Write things down
· Think things through
· Listen to people who have discretion and understanding

One more thing, you may have discretion and understanding, and still goes ahead to do the wrong things.

This was the exact case with Solomon. He was embodied with insight, wisdom, knowledge and understanding, yet he made the wrong choices at some point in his life.

This is because his actions were controlled by spirits, sometimes against his will. But he knew he was acting wrongly.

Actions are controlled by spirits. There’s more to say here but I believe this is clear enough, at least for this moment.

The bottom line is, your discretion and understanding will protect you more in the light of God's presence and guidance in your life.
