The bad state of the Kabba-Isanlu-Egbe-Osi-Ilorin road is receiving attention again as one of the major contractors engaged by the Federal Government has returned to the site.

The construction company, China Geo-engineering Corporation (CGC), which had abandoned its portion since flagged of for construction in 2014 due to poor funding and discrepancies in contractual agreement, has returned to the site fully, and work started immediately, The Guardian has confirmed.

As widely reported a fortnight ago, Senator representing Kogi West Sunday Karimi⁩ had promised that the contractor for the Osi—Mopa section of the road would return within two weeks to site, expressing hope for the abandoned federal road and improved security in the area.

This followed months of lobbying and pressure on the federal government agencies and officials, including the Minister of Works, Sen. David Umahi. Consequently, Karimi disclosed that over N9bn was facilitated for the rehabilitation of the remaining portions that are in bad state, while negotiations for a total reconstruction to bring relief to his constituents and motorists plying the road, continued.

Senator Karimi, on the floor of the Senate, had raised the need for alternative funding for all federal roads in the country, considering the slim purse of the federal government and the enormous roads that needed attention in the country.

He particularly called on the federal government to partner with Mangal Cement Company whose cement plant, located in Iluagba, Kogi West Senatorial District, has a production capacity of 3 million metric tonnes per annum, for the total reconstruction of the stretch of Kabba-Mopamuro-Isanlu-Egbe-Ilorin road under the Road Infrastructure Tax Credit Scheme (RITC).

This, the lawmaker noted, was in consideration of the lives, security and economic activities of residents of the host communities, which are of great concern to him.

The rehabilitation of the Phase II of the project was flagged off at Kabba in April 2014 by the then Minister of Works, Mike Onolemem. The 80km stretch, which contract estimated in 2014 at N8.22bn was awarded to Messrs CGC Nigeria Limited, and expected to be completed in three years from the date of the flag-off.

As expected, work commenced from the starting point at Kabba covering a distance of 10 kilometre between Kabba and Ayetoro-Gbedde. However, a few days to the February 2015 presidential and National Assembly polls, (about one year after the job was flagged off and six months after commencement of construction work) the Chinese contracting firm moved its equipment away from site and did not return.

A visit to the site by our reporter yesterday showed that CGC has commenced work at Nursing School, Isanlu, Yagba East Local Council to proceed to Oyi River, near Ejiba, Yagba West Local Council.

The return of CGC to site on the Kabba–Egbe–Ilorin Road is widely seen as a big win for residents of the affected communities in Kwara and Kogi States and trelavelers along the route.

According to Senator Karimi, a total of N9bn was secured for the project. While he earmarked N3bn in his own capital funds for constituency projects in the 2025 Apprroproation Act, he facilitated additional N6bn through lobbying of federal agencies and the Works Minister, Dave Umahi.

PDP used this road to campaign for 2015 election. They budgeted funds for it in 2011 but they stole it. May that evil party never happen to Nigeria anymore.

Nice one. That road needs federal attention. Kudos to Karimi, Dr Muyi Aina and other government officials from that area.

Has the road been completed now?

If PDP stole the money, why then is corruption worse under APC that has borrowed more money and wrecked the economy into recession multiple times with higher extreme poverty, inflation, unemployment, insecurity and worse road maintenance?

The 2018 Rating by Transparency International placed Nigeria at 148th position out of 180 countries. Nigeria was improving over the years under the previous government, until Buhari got elected as president, things became worse.

There is a difference between fact and fiction. We need to face facts, Buhari is worse than GEJ when it comes to fighting corruption, at least that’s what the facts prove.

Most of us believed there was corruption under Goodluck Jonathan’s Government. I agree with those who did, there was corruption, but not as bad as it is today under Mohammadu Buhari.

In 2012, Nigeria was placed at 139th position, In 2014, Nigeria gained 3 steps and was placed at 136th position. Under Buhari, Nigeria has lost many positions down to 148th.

There’s no further proof needed that corruption has worsened under Buhari’s government compared to previous years.

When I say this is Yoruba government people attack me

If you are from the South-South and Southeast I challenge you to name one project the so-called Yoruba federal government has done or about to commence in your state.

The Ibom deep seaport project the former governor Udom pleaded with the the Mohammadu Buhari government for assistance and now the current white rabbit came in and pushed to Tunibu government all to no available. And that won't stop the so-called Yoruba government from looting the resources belonging to Akwa Ibom for their personal gains, then send the state a piece of cake in the name of allocation.

Someday, this fraud will stop
It's just a matter of time

Tinubu is embarking on many roads he will not complete during his four years.

Obasanjo awarded many roads in the North and some are still NOT yet completed since 2007.

Why can't a government just focus on fixing ELECTRICITY ONLY and leave the rest for new regime

Opposition governors are loving APC because of EFCC protection in Oshiomole's Assembly of Past Crooks, APC ably led by Abacha's PTF a-looter comrade and ebilokan Lagos rogue, whose master plan raised budget 70 times without providing ordinary water for Lagosians.

if you don’t have up to 20hrs of electricity daily then you need to relocate.it is not enough to say it is expensive cos if you are metered on prepaid u pay for what you use and if you feel it is too expensive then you consider gen or solar unlike when we have to rely on only generators.they are trying on this one but they can still improve.
More road projects are being constructed across the country, electricity is relatively better.we have been seeing beneficiaries of the student loan and not the unseen beneficiaries of the previous school feeding programs.in two years we have see the recovery of one if not two of the moribund refineries for over 30years where a previous president said non will ever work.we have seen the buoyant performance in the capacities of state governments not when all govenors will be running to Abuja for bailouts…where we see them improving we should tell and not only try to bring the government down at any little opportunity

Obasanjo is a good politician like ebilokan.

How many posts on this thread have congratulated ebilokan already for launching the road even though it may not be completed?

Since 2015, what has changed for better in our country? Any one thing

Emergingnation:
Flashback: How Bola Tinubu spoke highly of Buhari in 2015, named PDP ‘Poverty Development Party

National leader of the ruling All Progressives Congress, APC, Bola Tinubu had during the presidential campaign in 2015, referred to President Muhammadu Buhari as the only solution for the security and economic challenges facing Nigeria.

During a mega presidential rally, the former governor of Lagos State recalled how some powerful nations in the world returned to army generals when they were challenged, saying “Major General Buhari would revive Nigeria’s economy”.

He named the current opposition People’s Democratic Party, PDP as the “Poverty Development Party saying they had nothing to offer.

His words at the time were; “Every nation has a period of their own challenges, when America was challenged, they turned to one great man, their ex-military general, General Eisenhower. When the French were challenged, they turned to their general, Charles de Gaulle.

“When Britain was challenged, they turned to their general. Today, Nigeria is economically and physically challenged so we turn to General Muhammadu Buhari. He is the right man for the job. If you talk about military experience, he has it abundantly, he has courage, simplicity, he has it abundantly.

“If you talk about great determination, a combination of vision and ability to perform, honesty and integrity, he has it abundantly.

“I laugh when the incapable government, ‘Poverty Development Party’ PDP were talking. They have nothing again to say, they now want to question the qualifications of General Buhari and look for his certificate”.

Following the manifestos in 2015 which projected the APC presidential candidate as a ‘saviour’, Buhari defeated the then incumbent president, Goodluck Ebele Jonathan with Nigerians expecting a total change in security and economy.

This is BS! Tinubu should restructure this country, allow people control their resources and build their projects themselves. This is something he claimed to have fought for over the years!
