A Lagos State Special Offences Court sitting in Ikeja has convicted and sentenced Mamman Nasir Ali, the son of former Peoples Democratic Party national chairman, Ahmadu Ali, and a Sierra Leonean, Christian Taylor, to 14 years imprisonment each over a ₦2.2 billion oil subsidy fraud.

Justice Mojisola Dada of the Special Offences Court in Ikeja on Tuesday handed down 14-year prison to two oil marketers, Mamman Nasir Ali and Christian Taylor, for their roles in a ₦2.2 billion fuel subsidy fraud.

The duo, along with their company, Nasaman Oil Services Limited, faced an amended 57-count charge after new evidence emerged in the case. They had originally been arraigned on 49 counts accusing them of conspiracy to obtain money by false pretence, forgery, and using falsified documents. All three defendants pleaded not guilty.

One count detailed how, on November 9, 2011, the marketers and two now-fugitive accomplices allegedly conspired “to obtain the sum of N749,991,273.36 … by falsely claiming that the sum represented subsidy accruing to Nasaman Oil Services Ltd under the Petroleum Fund for the importation of 10,031,986 litres of Motor Spirit (PMS) … which representation you knew to be false.”

Another count accused them of similarly defrauding the government of N1,480,074,125.61 on April 11, 2011, by claiming subsidy on 20,492,982.50 litres of PMS purportedly imported through shell companies in the British Virgin Islands.

Following Justice Adeniyi Onigbanjo’s withdrawal from the matter, the case was reassigned to Justice Dada. During the trial, Prosecutor Seiduh Atteh called several witnesses and tendered documentary evidence to establish how the subsidies were claimed without the requisite importation taking place.

Delivering her judgment, Justice Dada described the defendants’ actions as “not only a serious breach of trust, but an assault on the integrity of Nigeria’s oil subsidy programme.” She found the prosecution’s evidence compelling and convicted Ali and Taylor on all counts.

In addition to the prison , Justice Dada ordered the forfeiture of assets and bank s linked to the fraudulent transactions. She also issued warrants for the arrest of two other suspects—Oluwaseun Ogunbambo and Olabisi Abdul-Afeez—who remain at large.

The convictions mark one of the highest-profile judgments under Nigeria’s ongoing campaign to curb subsidy corruption.

Shame on all those who gathered at Ojota to protest against the removal of subsidy, only to claim there's no subsidy and then the removal of same subsidy they first opposed and then denied.
May their confusion never end

How come corruption is worse under A-looter Poverty Conmen, APC with so much debts in spite of increased revenue and subsidy savings? Do you know why

socialmediaman:
The 2018 Rating by Transparency International placed Nigeria at 148th position out of 180 countries. Nigeria was improving over the years under the previous government, until Buhari got elected as president, things became worse.

There is a difference between fact and fiction. We need to face facts, Buhari is worse than GEJ when it comes to fighting corruption, at least that’s what the facts prove.

Most of us believed there was corruption under Goodluck Jonathan’s Government. I agree with those who did, there was corruption, but not as bad as it is today under Mohammadu Buhari.

In 2012, Nigeria was placed at 139th position, In 2014, Nigeria gained 3 steps and was placed at 136th position. Under Buhari, Nigeria has lost many positions down to 148th.

There’s no further proof needed that corruption has worsened under Buhari’s government compared to previous years.

Kudos to President Tinubu for ending the subsidy fraud. They were collecting billions of dollars without importing a drop of fuel while Nigerians queue at filling stations for days.

There's something about shame, it's not transmittable, none can it be shared or given as a gift, you can keep your shame to yourself.

It's obvious the protest wasn't just about the removal but the procedure.

Announcing the removal without having a working refinery in sight can be forgiven but announcing it on 1st of January is unforgivable, some of those affected by the removal till date can't return to Lagos or wherever their base was.

No be former PDP Chairman"s son be that ? the more reason PDP will never come out of their crisis as GOD lives. That party will die natural death . They have destroyed many things in this country. So many unnoticed atrocities were committed by these people and yet they come out to blame the innocents on the rotten nature of our economy .They will face divine retribution
