Why should an average Joe be able to afford luxury cars, anywhere in the world?

Eh?

It may be sad if a civil servant isn't able to afford a car for his regular use. There's nothing sad in an average civil servant not being able to afford a luxury car.

Get it right...there's nothing sad in a regular guy not being able to afford a luxury item.

People should stop codedly promoting corruption and other forms of crime

Lol. Same c300?

Don't insult the sensibilities of Nigerians because you want to glorify foolishness.

Any working class graduate should be able to afford a mid range mid priced luxury sedan of three years ago.

Why shouldn't a civil servant that got employed as a university graduate afford a mid sized vehicle? That's the question any sensible person should be asking but most of you lack that ability.

Or is it cause its benz? There are Toyotas in that same prize range as well... is it the Toyota that they can afford?

Shouldn't a gainfully employed graduate be able to plan his pay to afford a car of his choice?

The poverty and the level of mediocrity you guys are used to ehn... I hope you guys don't choke on it.

Nothing really wrong with that ads, even in legal . He did not lie, civil servants really can't afford over 100 million naira car. To be honest, I see nothing wrong with that fact.

D only downside of dat ads is, people with low self esteem would get angry. Personally, I see lots of things on SM I don't like, I just block or mute the person involved.

But for them to report 2 d government & even d government making an announcement, it's just plain misplaced priority & waste of time. He hasn't broken any government or state laws with his ads. And government should have much bigger fish to fry than how a car dealer advertising his product

You are still not getting it.... Talking down on what gives others livelihood just because you want to sell your own products is a no no... Legally, he might not be wrong, but morally, that's wrong and inhumane... And humanity is what keeps us going....

Social media has a way of influencing the younger generations... Now imagine a young kid who might have the intentions to save lives as a doctor, maybe reality hits hard and such kid isn't able to own his own hospital when grown, and someone had already instilled in him/her that working in a government owned hospital as a civil servant won't get him a luxurious lifestyle, don't you think such person with opt for something else? Now imagine this analogy of mine happening with other sectors of works that involves civil service....

When we say the ad is wrong, we are looking from a bigger lens and not just the surface like you are seeing it... I hope you get my point now?....

Government has their own fault, but in this discussion, they are not the bone of contention

Same reason I hate those crazy hypemen at bars, events and all. I wonder when they became a norm. Always saying premiun nonsense. I mentioned it on a thread I created and some people said it is jealousy. I love the good life and I am a fan of chop life. But to constantly put down a set of the working population makes no sense.

Why should civil servants watch his content? Why should they want to afford luxury cars?

In which country of the world does government workers afford luxury cars - by the prevailing localized understandings of it? Can civil servants in the UK afford Bentleys or Aston Martins? Or do civil servants in Italy drive Lamborghinis or Ferraris?

This country is very disheartening.
Full of very irritating, entitled dunderheads. To think that the vast majority of the so-called civil servants at all levels ( at least 90%) are merit-less misfits who got their jobs through nepotism and corruption, and are even redundant and incompetent at it, yet they feel so entitled and want to live luxury lives for merely being absolute wastes of space!

Besides, the so called warning by the NOA is not even worth the paper it was printed on. What sort of institutional idiocy is this, to purport to enforce subjective 'morals' on a private individual who has committed absolutely no crime? Shouldn't they have something more impactful or meaningful to focus on? Alas, of course the Nigerian body of civil servants prefer to be utterly useless. Always prioritizing low hanging fruits and window dressing activities rather than substantive issues.

If c300 is the your definition of luxury... seeing you mention Aston Martin and lambo in the same sentence is just silly.

A mid size, mid range sedan, then please, add Toyota camry, Honda accord, toyota avalon...

Cause I don't know why a graduate working in the civil service shouldn't be able to work up a payment plan for these cars... unless of course he is in a nation like Nigeria where poverty is glorified.

Give only one example in the world where the welfare or compensation package of a regular or average civil servant can afford luxury cars

Canada and I won't call his cars luxury. They are just new models.

Long overdue this warning should be extended to MCs/hypemen it will only end in desperation to make quick wealth, which in turn leads to an even higher level of corruption in our already corruption infested civil service.

Lol... so because it makes you uncomfortable, they should be banned or what?

Thank you... a mid range, mid sized sedan like c300 is luxury? Wetin s600 go call im self?

That car is comparable to Toyota camry, avalon, Honda accord, etc...and those cars, in my opinion should be the range of any gainfully employed graduate; civil service or not..

Aren't politicians civil servants?!

We love poverty and glorify mediocrity.

Partial education is worse than no education at all...

If you believe that an N80m 2021 C300 is not a 'luxury' car by Nigerian working class standards, then you need to have your brain checked. Apart from top IOC company workers and a few senior executives of prime companies, which 'working class' Nigerian, let alone bloody civil servant, can 'afford' a car of N80 million, payment plan or not?

Don't queue behind your Nigerian used Toyota Big Daddy or even 406. Stay there and be dreaming of 2021 C300. Entitled jokers.

He doesn't need to tell anyone before we know that civil servants cannot afford such cars.

Even civil servants in the advance countries such car ( all things being equal, provided the naira is = $).

Not all business men can even pay for such cars nowadays. Except those greedy politicians, ritualists/kidnappers and fraudulent guys who have too much money to throw around.

By your standards, the only people making money in the nation to afford a mid range, mid sized sedan are either politicians or criminals...

Actually, civil servants can loot every kobo allocated to their ministries to buy any car of their choice. If you go to Abuja, you'll see that happening. Civil servants even have estates in Abuja.

Let's be mindful of what we put of there in the name of ads because when we end up building a society without an atom of decency and morality, we all will pay the weighty price.

Is civil service lucrative anywhere?

The point here is that no one should make demeaning statements against any group.

Stop saying this nonsense...

You keep acting like c300 is some over the top vehicle that normal people can't drive.

Italy for one, has some of the most expensive politics.. the government workers aren't struggling to buy small cars... they drive cars made in that year

Check Canada...

Thing is most of you are so used to poverty that whenever someone speaks about it, you guys feel attacked... you get triggered... you enter defence mode..

Cause why else will a well thinking adult say that a full grown individual with years in a job (civil service or not) shouldn't be able to afford a mid sized vehicle from two years ago.

I'm a proud civil servant. I'm not trained to live above my means.

There's nothing in a car. I have a Toyota Camry for my family and I'm contented with that.

The DG should have gotten him arrested and charge him for encouraging corruption and if civil servant steals now, they will start to castigate all civil servants.

They should please let us be, we're not complaining.

But why won't you as a civil servant with years of service be able to afford to work out a payment plan for a mid sized sedan that's two years old...

Say what you may but thay car sells as the same prize of a camry or avalon of the same year...

So, you feel its normal that despite all your years of service, you shouldn't be able to afford a mid range car of your choice cause I know that 07 camry isn't your choice

Omo, we truly deserve what we get if you can feel the mediocrity you're wallowing in is enough for you and even proceed to defend it.

What I know is the man said the truth
Let FG do what they want with that truth. I wish civil servants will turn that advert to demand better welfare rather than ing the authorities to shut the man down

If a house of rep member can afford that in less than 2 years, why not a civil servant in 8yrs of service?

Life is not all about saying the truth. You can say the truth and destroy your home, children and marriage when not well managed. Many people said the truth and were barbarically killed. Many truth can start a war or escalate violence if said and when said. i can go say the truth to the sick and disabled everywhere i meet them and deeply hurt them instead of solving anything.
Point is life is not all white and black or about proving rights. There's need for wisdom in everything. There are usually better ways of doing things and achieving results. If you still feel strongly that all is okay, you're entitled to your view. i am done.

Lol... mugu... how much is a Toyota camry of same year?

30 to 40m... at that price, you'll call the Toyota camry a luxury car as well.

So, because it's two figure millions, a civil servant after working for almost a decade shouldn't be able to afford it and you think it's right?

But politicians that are also civil servants are allowed to move around in luxury vehicles like your drug sniffing god abi?

Talking about partial education when you're a dimwit yourself.

We even chastise pastors who glorify riches and prosperity as opposed to salvation

And even if he says it there's no fucking wrong thing about it
If the government perpetually put the civil servants under poverty, then they will be mocked and there's nothing wrong with that
My parents are primary sch teachers who have worked through their lives with almost nothing to show for it over the years, I took the decision not to be one even while I was small cos I saw other people's parents drove cars when my parents had none
Others had beautiful houses when mine had none, but I never felt need to cry even if I was called a poor child from a poor home instead I took it as a challenge so if the government can't take it as a challenge then they should allow the young man do his business with any kind of ad he wants.
You can't keep people under poverty and say others shouldn't call them poor! You are being wicked by doing that! Trying to make them feel good in poverty!
What work do politicians do that they deserve millions to buy lots of luxury cars but civil servants should be okay with Suzuki!

True that.
I haven't heard the NOA criticize the ostentatious political class. Making them sound biased when government should be neutral in matters like this.

It appears our institutions are firmly in the grip of the ruling, privileged class and anything that quakes their comfort zone is backlashed instantly.

Police says rankadede, judges turn a blind eye, even the poor are scared in this case to be called poor so the rich are not offended.

Such an interesting country I live in.
Perhaps it is time to vote in AI to govern this country. At least we will see a different perspective for once.
