Another elephant description argument. The statistics is looking at the long trunk, the menacing tusks, the huge ears and they say wow....

But others are looking at the ugly backside and mountainous doodoo thumping down and they say, eww...

These returns are lies. They are built on perception rather than truth.

The problem with this data is that they didn't say the price, they bought and sold.

They presented the data as if stocks is like a money doubling scheme where as there are other companies that did very poor.

In 2023, the lowest price of transcorp stock was N3.19, it highest was N19.20

If you put 1m at N3.19 that is 313.5k shares
If you put 1m at N19.20, you will get 52k shares

In 2025,, the lowest price of transcorp stock was NGN 42.90 and the highest is N43

If you sell, 313.5k shares at 42.90, you will make N13.4m but your profit is 12.4m

If you sell 52k shares at N43, you will make 2.2M but your profit will just be N1.2M

So your profit depends on the amount of shares you have, the price you bought it and the price you sold it

if you held the money in cash how much would you have now

As someone who uses a couple of shares on the Nigerian stock exchange to assess economic sentiments, I can say categorically that what Buhari did to Nigeria in 8 years isn't the type to be easily forgiven or forgotten.

Few Nigerians delve into stocks. I mean very few! They rather just use their money to build a house that will generate profit for the next 30 years.

People are making it big in stocks. I know people who make more than 50% of their yearly income from dividends payments.

Just do your research. The numbers don’t lie.

That few Nigerians delve into stocks is a lie from the pit of hell. Never look at things from your own little corner.
Timmi: 3:41pm On Jun 03
Before you affirmed that the numbers are fudged, why not do a little research and look at what cost of the shares of each or few of these companies are on May 30, 2023, and compare it with what they are today, then you would have exercised your God given common sense before vituperating.

QuinQ:
But Naira got devalued at that point na.
How about all the investors that lost money and companies that folded and left Nigeria or went out of biz?
Besides, these numbers are fudged. See below

You seem to be very knowledgeable. So does this number beat Naira depreciation?

Yes. Using $461/$1 average as at may 2023 and using N1600/$1 average rate today and a $100 investment;

$100(N461/$1)=46,100 N/N2.23per share=20,673 shares (approximately)
20,673 shares* N10.75/share=N222,235/N1600/$1=$139 (approximately)

So a $39 return on your $100 investment. 39% ROI. Not ing for fees and related charges.

Only the first 10 are profitable. The rest are either static or at loss compared with what same amount of money could do as at May 2023.

If you cannot get the numbers, don’t get into an argument you know nothing about.

You have every tool on your phone to know but just want to argue baselessly.

If you believe I live in my own little world, present figures not arguing blindly.

They implemented a 1:4 Reverse stock split in 4th quarter of last year (reduced their total number of shares by a factor of 4). While the current price is significantly higher than the pre split price, it is the pre split price of 4 combine shares. The truth is that they seem to have actually lost value given the opening price post reverse split was N44 and current trading price is below that. They were trading at N11 or thereabout just before the reverse split.

May 1st 2023; price was N2.23 now it's right around N10.75 (N43/4). so the actual return is more like 3.8x. So a N1,000,000.00 invested in May 2023 would be around N4,800,000.00 today.

I am certain they didn't mean to mislead with this data, but always that data devoid of context can be misleading!

Value of 17 million naira today (what it can buy) hasn't dropped to the value of 1 million naira as at May 2023 (what 1m could buy then). May be 4 million naira of today is equivalent to 1 million naira back in May 2023

You said people make fifty percent of their income from dividends payments in a Year. Yes , that's achievable if things go well in the financial year.
But place one million and make thirteen million and even far more than that is a big lie.
Bros I have been into this for long from even the ones I got by inheritance. Haba.
I would have been a billionaire many times over na.
