Summary 😐😒 At the 2025 PENGASSAN Women Annual Convention in Abuja, Comrade Festus Osifo, President of the Petroleum and Natural Gas Senior Staff Association of Nigeria (PENGASSAN), announced that the union had successfully secured wage increases of up to 300% for some oil and gas workers. This significant achievement is part of the union’s collective bargaining efforts in response to escalating inflation, the devaluation of the Naira, and broader economic challenges affecting Nigerian workers. Osifo emphasized that since 2023, PENGASSAN has negotiated substantial salary adjustments across various companies, with many recording over 200% increases. He highlighted that unlike other sectors struggling with stagnant wages, PENGASSAN workers have seen real improvements, and the union remains focused on addressing the impact of currency devaluation rather than simply advocating for a minimum wage of ₦70,000. In a broader economic context, Osifo gave a mixed review of President Bola Tinubu’s istration, acknowledging some progress in macroeconomic policy but criticizing its limited impact on everyday Nigerians, especially in areas like food, healthcare, and education. Also speaking at the event, Comrade Maryann Ada Mbanaso, Chairperson of the PENGASSAN Women Commission, underscored the group’s commitment to empowering women in leadership and transforming the energy industry. She declared that women are vital to the sector’s future and must take proactive steps to secure their place in decision-making spaces. |

Nitong:Smh. Is civil service for profits? When government starts charging you for profit prices for services many of you will start crying. Nitong:It's not by force to work for government if you are not contented with what you are currently being paid. You are free to apply for job with Shell, Chevron that are for profit organizations. If you have what it takes to be hired by these organizations and you can work your butts off unlike the laid back civil service and quota employment life you currently enjoy 6 Likes 1 Share |

This is kind of labour leader workers should crave for, who has the interest of his followers at heart and not the one that will be receiving bribe from one end to the other thereby sabotaging the interest of the followers

FreeStuffsNG: Well, at the end, government still has to pay its workers well. The problem is, you government and oppositon guys, are wedded to the idea that all our income must come from oil. Meanwhile, at the end of the day, the oil money no dey enough You APC people don't want to do hard choices government. 4 Likes |

nairalanda1:You are speaking from both sides of the mouth. FG has over the years being moving away from oil and if you are studious about our economy, you should have come across the data that indicate oil is not our biggest earner but biggest earner of forex. Thanks to APC and current istration, Tax revenue is now fetching the nation trillions while same oil sector is enjoying rebates and Tax incentives capped at 20%. Nigeria is not even among the top global oil revenue earners and oil prices keep oscillating so it is no brainer on why FG has been moving away from oil. |

FreeStuffsNG: Sorry, I laughed at this point and stopped reading. I have been around for decades, and I have heard what you said over and over again since IBB regime. 'Nigeria is moving from oil' Cocoa is now our fifth largest export, We got lithium, and so on. Meanwhile , this budget is 80% dependent on oil revenue. 80%. And then, government refuses to tax the informal sector, and end the wuru wuru taxation in the LG Level, because they know it would provoke rebellion, which would remove them from office....because most Nigerians love free stuff (as you yourself should know). Call me when government taxes the informal sector worker, when they reduce dependency on selling resources (because no matter how many resources like oil and lithium and company you sell, we don't control the price, they do...you know who they are)....and when the government stops allowing the massive corruption and leakages in the budget that have been going on for decades. You and PDP , you dey alike. |

300% wage increase for people whose basic salary is already in millions. What exactly are we expected to do with this news? Is this meant to be some sort of provocation?

Islie: Festus should tell us how he has also helped the Contract staff in this sector. He should address the unfair treatment being meted to these set of critical stakeholders that constitute the bulk of Oil and Gas workers. The systems carefully denies these people all the sumptuous benefits they so-called Oil Workers(PENGASSAN) appropriate to themselves. You can imagine where an experienced Engineer(on contract) that has worked for an Oil Company for 20 years cannot boast of a living wage or any good life. And if he dares complain or ask for salary review, this same wicked people(Nigerians) will go and hire a young school leaver to understudy him, with the aim of replacing you with cheaper labor when next he complains. This is a typical story of Nigerian Contract staff in the Oil Company. Festus can print his name in GOLD, if he can do anything no matter how little to breach this huge gap and address this common inhuman treatment in the sector. 1 Like |

Lmao I doubt this. They should list the oil companies. Firstly, majority of the companies that might have done this will be the IOCs and the likes indegenous players like Seplat |

Islie:NNPC have been using staff to do their work while they still earn meagre 100k as salary in this tinubu regime. Some staff have work with NNPC for more than 10 years even as graduates to Masters degree level. |
