Piggybacking on what @cashmadam and others have said. You should have included a letter from her Nigerian ophthalmologist and another from an American ophthalmologist describing her condition his planned clinical management, ission length, and correspondence between the Nigerian and American surgeons etc. Another letter from the hospital with a cost estimate as well and Obviously proof that you can afford the care. Ophthalmic surgeries are very expensive even with insurance. VO was probably worried about these issues especially after three prior surgeries.

Might be best to abandon the medical care route and focus on tourism as a reason. However the current denial can even complicate this.

Good evening house!

I applied for B1/B2 non- immigrant visa in March 2025( she tried dropbox for renewal but was not successful) for my mom to visit my sister in the US who gave birth last year December for Omugwo and was scheduled for an interview in October 2025.

While waiting for her appointment date she underwent another surgery on her eyes ( this will be the 4th time). All surgeries done in Nigeria. We decided she seek another opinion leading us to apply for expedited (emergency) using medical reasons to get a closer date.

ed necessary documents and a closer date was scheduled for today 3/6/2025 which was unfortunately denied.

She has been to the US twice

The visa officer only asked her if she was in the US last year and a year before and the duration for her stay which was 2months and 5months respectively.

We want to reapply again
1) How do we show/prove strong ties back home
2) We are asked to not to repeat what we filled in the original ds-160 form when filling a new one. What do we fill now?
3) Can we still go through the medical route(b2) because she still needs medical attention and a closer date

Thanks in anticipation 🙏

I don't think yours is 'istrative processing". Just reschedule like you have stated that you opted for September and go and appear. And just pray its not a big deal. I received 221g as well and was approved.

did they return your port ? A quick question if it’s a big deal why won’t they just simply deny someone the visa why schedule one for interview and allow
One to go through the stress only to say deny !! wish they work like England where they actually tell you why it’s a no so you can better prepare for next time .

Anyone waiting for visa I pray u get it .

Hello Latti.

YOU.
I applied for B1/B2 non- immigrant visa in March 2025( she tried dropbox for renewal but was not successful) for my mom to visit my sister in the US who gave birth last year December for Omugwo and was scheduled for an interview in October 2025.

*** Mom's previous B2 visas were very probably abused , hence her inability to qualify for IW (interview waiver) in order to give the consulars the opportunity to ask her some personal questions. Its not all over, she might just be warned in this 3rd attempt to stick to her visa or travel itinerary.

YOU.
While waiting for her appointment date she underwent another surgery on her eyes ( this will be the 4th time). All surgeries done in Nigeria. We decided she seek another opinion leading us to apply for expedited (emergency) using medical reasons to get a closer date.

*** This is a true opportunity to turn the story from ordinary B2 tourism to Medical visit or check up but you did not take it from the foundation. You took it from the upper storey hence her expedite emergency request (under medical ) denial.

*** Keep all her Nigeria medical bills and operation histories. Let a Nigerian doctor recommend your mom for outside (america) surgery and find a U.S.
optometrist who is willing to treat mama.

****. Fill another ds-160 based on medical visit, mention the american doctor and you must have made some concrete contract with the doctor with printed evidences.

*** You will use the printed evidences and others to secure your mom's new emergency appointment request which i am certain would be granted if done with the guidelines.

NOTE: Teach your mom to be honest with the consular about her past U.S. visits, and indicate that this 3rd visit is absolutely for medical purpose & that because she doesn't want to lose her sight. If you are deligent with the whole application mama should have another better chance.. 👍

Thank you sir

Thank you for your input

We added documents from both Nigerian and American hospitals ( maybe not well detailed to them).
And it’s my sister based in the US that’s funding the treatment, we also submitted her bank statement too.

Hello , please I need some clarification. My visa interview is scheduled for 30th of June. However, I have been seeing post on different platforms saying that applicant for US visa interview will need to visit the embassy twice . The first visit will be for submission of documents , while the second will be the interview proper. However, I don't know when to go for the first visit because I am yet to receive a mail to that effect. Moreso, I live in Lagos, my visa interview is booked in Abuja. I want to book my flight to Abuja , I am really confused on which dates to choose for my itinerary. Please, someone should please shed light in this.

It’s immigrant section visitors who go twice. Non immigrant you only go once on the day of your interview.

Yes my port was returned and i picked it from OIS. It was not istrative processing( you don't have to reappear for this unless they write you and tell you to provide more document).

For 221g its a 50/50 chance. Most times they just want to confirm that they have made the right decision especially when its IW. I know people who overstayed(3-6months) who got 221g, reappeared and was still denied based on their length of stay.

And 2 of my aunties who was in the same category was given their visa. You can never tell how it will go until you get there and they ask you one or two questions based on their refusal. That's why i said it might be just for clarity on one or some of the information you provided. Just prepare your mind that you are going for an interview.

I pray that you find favor!!

They are flagging people with that length of stay now. 2months upwards.

Yes they do allow that, I had a similar situation. I took my port travelled brought it back with the white slop and then submitted at DHL then.

Thank you for confirming this. I was going to take it back myself, so you have to drop it with DHL? How long did it take before you took it back and how long did it take before you got it back from the embassy?

SOS: My uncle and I are bid to travel on the 12th of this month to UK and Canada. He submitted his port for through dropbox on the 19th of May, until this moment, his port has not been returned. What can we do to retrieve the port urgently?

We have booked hotels in London and Canada. Plus flight tickets.

Please help on how to go about it. I did not know that the system has changed. I encouraged him to drop the port
Lekan2348: 1:10pm On Jun 04
Write them an email requesting for this. They will release the port. There is a template for the email on the consulate website for Nigeria.

Hello Baba.
Sorry your uncle won't be able to retrieve his travel port until after 8 weeks (normal processing time for IW) or any time the embassy clears the port as done with and you won't be able to retrieve his port during that time . ** They won't reply to your retrieval email . This applies only to IW.. 👍

Good evening,
I have a few questions as regards B1/B2 visa
My mum wants to come for my graduation in December. She most likely will be in the US for 1 month. On her DS-160, should I fill 1 month or 2 weeks for her visit?

In the aspect of have you made any specific travel plans, I chose "no", is that fine or should I change it to yes... If they ask her where she will be staying, should she say that she will be staying with me or she will be staying in a hotel for that duration?

Also, I've filled out her DS-160 form but there is not any specific place that says where she will explain the purpose of her visit. So, how do I go about that or is there something I am missing out?

Hello Roseline.

YOU.
Good evening,
I have a few questions as regards B1/B2 visa
My mum wants to come for my graduation in December. She most likely will be in the US for 1 month. On her DS-160, should I fill 1 month or 2 weeks for her visit?

*** This is the foundation for future honesty. Fill 1 month since that's her likely duration of stay.

YOU.
In the aspect of have you made any specific travel plans, I chose "no", is that fine or should I change it to yes..

*** Embassy recommends that you should not commit a lot towards your planned travel since your visa is not guaranteed. So, your answer is no. Choosing yes will also not affect anything.

YOU.
If they ask her where she will be staying, should she say that she will be staying with me or she will be staying in a hotel for that duration?

*** If you are not living on-campus or anywhere where the presence of your mum might cause discomfort for others or anyone then you do not need to book an hotel.

YOU.
Also, I've filled out her DS-160 form but there is not any specific place that says where she will explain the purpose of her visit. So, how do I go about that or is there something I am missing out?

*** There are two places which asked for that question but it was asked indirectly. Number one is : Your U.S. (fill your info there). Number two : Do you have any other places you planned to visit ? Also write your address etc there. By that, your mum has indcated her purpose of visit. *** Mind you the visa officer will also ask her verbally. 👍

The lettee they gave tou would have details of where and how you should return it.

In my time it was DHL which was a few years ago its probably different now

Hi,

From a similar experience where the person collecting could not meet up with a scheduled appointment due to other commitments, we did not need to rebook. Walk into DHL with a printed copy of the expired appointment. Since you selected free pickup, OIS has likely transferred your port to DHL.

Please I have an interview coming up in a few weeks, and I'm filling a new form because the old one i submitted needs to be updated. But this new one shows an expiration date. Does this mean this form is no longer valid?
