You want more recent christian promotion of atrocities? Here are several quotes and statements by prominent Christian clergy or religious leaders in of the illegal U.S. invasion of Iraq in 2003 that led to the death of millions of Iraqis based on a pack of lies about non-existent WMDs, or offering theological justifications for it. These show how some sectors of American Christianity aligned with the war effort, often citing "just war theory," moral duty, or protection of freedom: 1. Franklin Graham (Evangelist, son of Billy Graham) Quote: “We should offer to serve the people of Iraq. We have destroyed their country... The United States has been given the authority to do this.” (Interview, early 2003) Graham also called Islam “a very evil and wicked religion” after 9/11, which colored his views on the Iraq conflict. 2. Jerry Falwell (Founder of the Moral Majority) Quote: “Blow them all away in the name of the Lord.” (Quoted by The Washington Post, October 2001) While this was said post-9/11 and not explicitly about Iraq, Falwell later ed the Iraq War as part of the global fight against “evil.” 3. Pat Robertson (Founder of the Christian Broadcasting Network) Quote: “The war in Iraq is a righteous cause... We must win it decisively, and we will.” (CBN Broadcast, 2003) Robertson framed the war as part of a divine mission and moral duty. 4. Richard Land (Southern Baptist Convention, Ethics & Religious Liberty Commission) Statement: “We believe that this just war against the forces of Saddam Hussein is necessary to defend freedom and protect innocents.” (Open letter to President Bush, 2002) Co-signed by over 40 evangelical leaders and theologians. 5. Chuck Colson (Former Nixon aide, Evangelical leader, Prison Fellowship) Statement: “If there ever was a ‘just war,’ this is it... The evidence is clear that Saddam Hussein is a threat to world peace.” (Breakpoint Commentary, March 2003) 6. Tim LaHaye (Author of Left Behind series) Quote: “I believe God is using President Bush to intervene against evil in Iraq.” (Interview, early 2003) ................... Even today, You Mr 'civilised christian', the ongoing genocide of Palestinians. Yet you have the audacity and temerity to play 'Mr Moral'? How dare you? |
