jhydebaba:this is the only sensible comment on this post.. Those asking if we earn same as other countries don't even know that Nigeria has one of the highest purchasing power in West Africa yet has the cheapest fuel. |

jyz200: Is life only about the price of petrol? If so why is our country the global leader in extreme poverty and out of school children while our commercial capital city of Lagos is among the worst cities with its lack of water supply to all households despite being blessed with so many rivers and the ocean? bdon123: If everything about life revolves around petrol price and things are so bad in other African countries as well as the countries of Europe, Asia and Americas, then why are we praying and fasting to have their japa visas? Does it have anything to do with ebilokan and APC’s failure to crash the dollar rate through capitalist policies of deregulation and privatisation that made us prosperous collectively with high employment productivity in PDP’s 16 years? anonimi: 2 Likes 2 Shares |

“Some people here in Nigeria might think that petrol at less than N900 is expensive, but there is nowhere in West Africa where petrol is not selling above $1, which is N1,600,” Dangote said. Another angle: hope petrol smuggling has not become a lucrative business like this? ![]() 1 Like |

That's true. It is a different ball game in other West African countries. As one who has travelled extensively within the Continent, I can relate to this fact. Alhaji Dangote is not talking for the sake of it. #Just Facts |

jhydebaba: NinjaMetahuman: 1. Dangote still has to import a lot of the crude he uses. 2. Also, extracting crude is expensive business. Very much so. At the end of the day, you are advocating that the people who bring out crude should sell it to you cheap so that you can get N100 fuel. That would not be possible |
nairalanda1(m): 11:42am On Jun 06 |
Kaycee9242: Many of them have crude like us. Also, NIgeria, and all other subsaharan African countries are broke. And it is because of our dependence on resources. |
nairalanda1(m): 11:50am On Jun 06 |
KingRex1: 1.Libya also produces the same amount of crude as we do, and the revenue is spread among a population of 8 million compared to our 200 million. That's why Ghaddafi had the money to do all those mega projects he was doing, and why they can afford subsides. 2.Venezuela sells fuel very cheap...and have a massively growing debt, a big smuggling problem, are so broke that they want to invade their neighbours Guyana and take their oil to sell for more money (so far the USA has told them to back off) and their refineries are all broken down or running under capacity And they are run by Buhari and Tinubu, so the above is easily explained (wink , wink). 3. Iran subsidises oil...and a host of other stuff. They also have a debt as big as ours, if not larger. And the government wants to remove the subsides, but they are scared of riots...so, they keep getting broke on subsides (and it is not like they have the money, thanks in part to sanctions, but also resource dependency). Iran also has a massive fuel smuggling problem...especially to Pakistan. 4. Angola is going towards removing subsides. Angola is also broke and also has a massive fuel smuggling problem...to Namibia in particular.(Namibia is better economy and living wise than Angola by the way). 5. Egypt and Algeria have lesser populations than we do, and have far more diversifed economies (Egypt is essentially the world's leading tourism area...my opinion. Everyone has to see the pyramids and the temples plus archaeology is big time business over there, and the museums are centers of ancient history...and they still have artefacts in storage they haven't shown anyone..that if they bring them out, they will attract crowds from the world to see in minutes). So, they can afford subsides...and anyway, Egypt is going away from subsides (they have removed subsides on power for example.) Nigeria cannot afford subsides. You can abuse me and call me an oppressor and APC er now, even though I hate both pdp and apc AND regard obi as a PDP shill. |

themanderon: Actually, most African countries are very poor, and many are even worse than Nigeria. Like Ivory coast. Abidjan looks great, but step outside , and you will see massive povery. Ghana too as well. And so forth. I am not saying that our government is doing well. Our government could do better. I am just correcting the idea that somehow African countries are all better than Nigeria. Rich African countries are places like Botswana and Libya which have small populaitons, as does Namibia, and South Africa, Algeria, Morroco and Egypt which have diversified economies, and in Egypt's case, a massive tourisim industry. |
nairalanda1(m): 11:58am On Jun 06 |
dollypi: Many of those middle eastern nations produce far more crude than we do, and have populations far less than we do. That's why. A well managed NIgerian nation is a nation that uses its massive resoruces to make goods the world needs, not what Tinubu is doing...sharing oil money, and calling it renewed copium. |
nairalanda1(m): 12:02pm On Jun 06 |
seunoyeleyep: LOL....for the most part...YES. Many African countries are broke. Nice capitals, until you go outside, and they are as broke as Nigeria. The problem is , African countries don't want to do what China did to become a developed nation, they want to borrow money from China and sell their countries to China. Chad recently had a new stadium built for them by China. The loans from that will soon be due... ![]() |

jhydebaba:To be cheaper than the cost of production and other overhead expenses right? Aside that the rogues will still smuggle it across the border and create artificial scarcity in Nigeria again, in South Africa 🇿🇦 a litre of petrol is 1900 naira equivalent 1 Like |
Sunnypan: 12:28pm On Jun 06 |
When do we stop deceiving our selves, Sometimes you hear imported fuel is cheaper than the one we refined here in Nigeria, but forgetting say the imported fuel through custom duty and other logistical expencies before arriving in Nigeria. They just want to monopolize it to suffer us the more.
