The first country to implement a nationwide st andardized test was ancient China. Called as the imperial examination, established by the Sui Dynasty in 605 AD, it was meant to select able candidates for specific governmental positions.

This system was abolished by the Qing Dynasty 1300 years later in 1905, but England adopted this examination system in 1806 for Her Majesty's Civil Service, and was later applied to education, which further influenced other parts of the world gradually.

once upon a time, Students attend classes with no examination at the end of the Semester or the year, it is after their period of learning that they get involve with what they have learnt, develop things, theorems and the likes to invent reasonable things. Awards comes after Invention, this led to Competition among students and of course new inventions and theorems! Today, what is our fate? People only read to , not to Invent anything or get the real knowledge of each courses.
