For not standing side by side with his fellow PDP senators today, on the confirmation of Amaechi,i feel the DSP,showed to whole world that he is a coward. Saraki stood on the side of APC,when it became obvious that the issue of amaechi, has taken the dimension of APC vs PDP.Ekweramadu as the PDP senator holding the highest ranking position in the Senate, should have stood up to show solidarity with his fellow PDP senators. To me,ekweremadu today showed that he is not a sincere loyal PDP man.

Don't blame the DSP. If he had left the senate floor. There would have been a coup at the senate today. An APC member would have move for the motion for the impeachment of him and without him or pdp on the senate floor. He would have been easily been impeached

is it not 73 senators that is needed to remove him?

The OP is a loyal APC er from Edo State. He created this thread just to see what the blabbing blabbers have to say. He's anti-PDP!

I can't agree with you, irrespective of his stand, he'd have committed political suicide, He isn't my favorite person & is not likely to be anytime soon but based on the facts on ground, he did the right thing...

Self interest & preservation may be the "side argument" for his action but he could not have gone with the PDP senators especially when what they were bellyaching about does not even have any."leg to stand"...

You're so on point. However, I don't think APC Senators would have done that. They ain't fond of impunity. That task can only be carried out in a PDP dominated House. Just like what they wanted to do in Rivers State then!

no. You need only 2/3 of senators present at the senate floor. So if 79 senators are present when the motion for impeachment is made, only 2/3 of the 79 senators present at the senate floor is required to impeach the senate president or DSP. Those absent in the senate floor can't vote.

It is against the law for the DSP to walk out from a plenary; as DSP he isn't just representing the PDP, he is representing the whole senate. Your blame should be on Saraki for being partisan when he is heading a senate comprised of different parties.
As SP or DSP, it is expected of one being neutral and only reaching decisions from reactions of each senators; my two cents is that the era of yays and nays should be abolished and electronic voting considered.

If one-third could form a quorum to elect the Senate President (Saraki), then that same one-third should be able to form a quorum to impeach the Deputy Senate President (Ekweremadu). Though it's unconstitutional.

It is not cowardice, ekweremadu choosing to stay behind shows the PDP caucus that no matter what saraki does PDP has no choice if they want to have a say in the 8th senate. I hate to it it but ekweremadu's position has made saraki very safe, he can get away with a lot of things dogara will not try in the house of Reps because the PDP see him as a necessary evil if they want to remain relevant in the senate.

yes. It was the same way the Senate president and DSP were elected. Only those present can vote while those absent can't vote for impeachment or for electing a senate president or DSP.

73 out of 109. Since 48 PDP senators have left, the 2/3 will be far less than that. With the house already form quorum, what APC will have done is to vote based on the number of senators on the floor of the house and get 2/3 to pave way for his impeachment.

It's constitutional bros, the only problem is the moral angle but you & i know legality & morality are not synonymous in the Nigerian politician's world view.
