My approach is carried out solely for organic garden farming (kitchen size household farm). Commercial farming may require more extensive approach.

To address the issue;

You can use neem oil instead of the leaves. Very much available (at least I got some at Alaba market) and yields better results.

Nevertheless, you will still have to do lots of hand picking, especially for the snails.

Lol...I'm human after all.
On the tomato plant dilemma at first, I have been able to find a way around my initial problem caused by the rains. Like someone suggested, I did the following;

1. Raised the beds high enough
2. Mulched the tomato plants (used my dried up dongoyaro leaves to achieve this).
3. Prune/pinched off all the lower leaves close to the ground to avoid little splashing of water even after mulching.
4. I sprayed with baking soda/vegetable and a little local black soap to prevent those stubborn whiteflies and prevent fungi diseases.

The last rain had little or no effects on my tomato plants. Not even a signle leave curling up. They all look healthy and good. And the fruits sure do look good and getting bigger by the day.

On neem extract, how I prepared mine has already been explained in this thread. You could also get the neem oil from online e-commerce stores. It's readily available and more effective that the neem leaves.

Merry Christmas

Been a while i updated on my garden events. So far so good, harvested and sold virtually all my TETE and SOKO vegetables. lt was indeed a bountiful harvest.

Moreover, i have been preoccupied working with varieties of the Tete vegetables as regard insects-pests invasion (posting my findings soonest). Also being worked with is rabbit urine using my Roman de grande tomato plants in sacks as my test samples.

Thanks once again to all who have in one way or the other helped make this a success, 2018 holds more exploits (would be expanding my horizons into more vegetable crops and definitely pure organic farming.

I planted tomatoes late last year and it sprouted and grew to a reasonable height, suddenly I noticed that once I watered them the plants kinda fell to the ground and after awhile even without being watered they fell! It seemed the stalks couldn't the weight of the tomato plants! So none fruited at the end of the day

What you are trying to say is that they 'bend' not fall.

Tomato plant is light, so they bend when wind blow them or when heavy rain fall on them, but that doesn't mean they should not fruit. All my tomatoes bend too and they fruited, though i plan to stake when i plant tomato again.

I will suggest if you really to want have the first joy of planting tomato, go to the market to buy tomato seed instead of using the ones you poured away from the tomato you bought for your stew.

Their was this tenant of ours that planted tomatoes the way you did too.
The washed off seeds of the tomatoes they used for a party celebrations sprouted beautifully and well so tall and upright, i was even iring them. A wind blew and they all fell them apart, they all bend, and they didn't fruit at all, just like you complained.

Sorry about your experience. It wasn't all rosy for me especially at my first attempt too you know.

Firstly, a good tomato plant should always have a good rooting system. When transplanting, I do make sure I bury about 2-4inches of the plant into the soil (ofcos, you'll have to pinch off some lowers in some cases).

Secondly, AVOID OVERHEAD WATERING of your tomato plants. This is a major contributor to so many harm that can befall your plants; ranging from diseases and what you complained about.

Thirdly, giving your tomato plant isnt a bad idea at all. Does more good to the plant you know, keeping your plant upright. Soil - water splashing on the leaves is bad to the plant also.

Well, attached is the tomato plant I nursed Late November last year. Just 4 only lol. All doing pretty well in sacks, started fruiting too. (UNDER EXPERIMENT THOUGH, with my rabbit urine isssh, lol).
