US govt speaks on identities of Nigerian politicians issued visa bans

The United States of America has given reasons it will not reveal the identities of Nigerian politicians issued visa bans for interfering in electoral processes.

On Monday, the US government announced the ban on some Nigerians, who undermined the November 2019 governorship polls in Bayelsa and Kogi States.

On why the identities of those affected were not disclosed, the American Ambassador to Nigeria, Mary Beth Leonard, it was because of the confidentiality attached to visa-related matters.

Leonard stated this on Wednesday, while speaking at the end of the inaugural consular meeting with Nigeria officials.

According to her, the names cannot be made public “as US visa processes are in fact confidential and so we do not publish a list, we do not make public who it is that would be subjected to this sanction.

How is it fake news? The statement only reveal that the list of banned officials is confidential and not that its a lie.

It's not in the public domain but insiders or associates of the affected Politicians could have divulged it to SR. How do you think news media get confidential info?

For the likes of El Rufai (a serving governor) to be banned from entering the US, this should tell you the US has begun unvieling sanctions against high ranking of this useless APC government.

Why?

Because his diplomatic port is useless in getting him entry into the US.

All Nigerians should be happy that the USA took the step to punish riggers and should appeal to eu and UK to do same.
Fayemi for the role, he played in osun state too should be on the list, all RO Who cancel or alter results after announcing them should also be prosecuted and banned.

However, it's our own leaders than needs to work on our electoral system and make it credible. Politicians are the biggest obstacle to free and fair polls in Nigeria.
