The Rivers State Governor, Rotimi Amaechi, has accused former Minister of State for Education, Nyesom Wike, of embezzling over N3.5 billion state funds.
Mr. Amaechi said the money was paid to the former minister for the execution of some contracts in the state. He said despite receiving the money, the minister did not execute the contracts, a set of classroom blocks and a road in Rivers State.
“My istration gave Nyesom Wike, the contract worth N2 billion to construct Eneka road and he disappeared with the funds,” the governor said. “I even awarded 14 classroom blocks to Nyesom Wike at the cost of N112 million each. But, as you can see, he has not built even a building.”
Mr Amaechi, who spoke on Sunday during a courtesy call on the traditional ruler of Akpor Kingdom, Orlu Oriebe, said Mr. Wike “disappeared with the money without constructing the road.”
Messrs. Amaechi and Wike were political allies with the latter serving as a Chief of Staff to the governor. During Mr. Amaechi’s political battle with the presidency, Mr. Wike, who had been appointed minister, pledged loyalty to the president, thus leading to a battle for control of Rivers politics.
Mr. Amaechi has since defected to the opposition All Progressives Congress, APC, while Mr. Wike was recently elected the River State governorship candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, for next year’s election.
“For every time he has made these accusations has failed to provide proof. He should provide evidence of the contract and hand them over to anti-corruption agencies. This particular issue has been used over and over again.
“What kind of contract do you pay the contractor N1.5 billion upfront? These are purely false allegations concocted by Mr Amaechi to divert attention from his failure as governor,” he said.
Mr. Nwakaudu also alleged that Mr. Amaechi used N19 billion of Rivers funds to finance the campaign organisation of the APC presidential candidate, Muhammadu Buhari. He said the governor has also approached the State House of Assembly for approval to get another N6 billion loan to fund the presidential campaign of the APC flag-bearer.
When asked to provide proof of these allegations, Mr. Nwakaudu said necessary documents have been sent to anti-corruption agencies for further investigations.
At the traditional ruler’s palace, Mr. Amaechi called on the people of Obio/Akpo Local Government Area, the most populated local government in the state, to vote for the APC in 2015 and ensure that President Goodluck Jonathan is voted out in the presidential election.
“He (Mr Wike) worships money, while I worship God. President Goodluck Jonathan does not like us, that is why we must vote out PDP and Jonathan back to Otuoke. I have developed Ikwerre people, even Nyesom Wike. I will not stop calling them thieves,” he said.
The governor announced that he has paid all outstanding salaries of civil servants in the state and that December Salaries would be paid between the 23rd and 24th to enable them prepare for Christmas.
Mr. Amaechi also used the occasion to lay stones at the foundation of the Akpor Traditional Centre at Ozuoba.
Thanking the governor, Mr Oriebe pledged his unflinching for the APC and the governor.
“I appeal to you and wish to state categorically that no amount of intimidation, suppression that will make me deviate from ing Governor Amaechi,” he said. “I have been facing a lot of opposition from the PDP. Thank God, Governor Amaechi has upgraded the Akpor stool to 1st class stool. Please, also consider other neighbouring communities.”
P.S. I'm still new here, the auto spam bot won't let me post links yet.

Adeleke will be rejected in Osun State come August 8th, 2026 governorship election. Meanwhile, "Our next target in the southwest, and you know we are good at hitting our targets, is Osun State and Oyo State. We assure you that we will do all what is possible to bring them into the fold."
Your Visit to President Tinubu Affirms Your Desperation, Confusion
- Osun APC Taunts Adeleke
The visit of David Adeleke popularly known as 'Davido' who led his father, Dr Deji Adeleke and his uncle, the Osun State Governor Ademola Adeleke, to President Bola Ahmed Tinubu in his Lagos residence on Tuesday does not have any significant political implications on the governorship aspirants of the Osun State chapter of the All Progressives Congress (APC) as it is more or less a non-issue.
Taking into cognizance the fact that the host President Tinubu is a grandmaster of partisan politics should be part of the reasons why no one should have a sleepless night over the said controversial visit.
We shouldn't forget the fact that the President has the whole country as his constituency and any one irrespective of political persuasion, religious leaning and ethnic background has the right to visit the nation's President as long as such visit is not capable of causing cataclysm to the number one citizen of the country.
Our party is intact in our state and I am eminently qualified to state that we have an array of capable and qualified governorship aspirants who have been consulting with interest groups about their 2026 gubernatorial aspirations, to take over from the current bumbling and fumbling governor and give quality leadership to the people of Osun State.
The troubled looks on the faces of the three visitors to the President indicated a pointer to the fact that if something was not chasing them or they were definitely chasing something.
It was only Governor Ademola, his brother, Deji and nephew, Davido who could feel where their shoes were pinching them but definitely, there is fire on the mountain for the trio and the Osun State chapter of the PDP.
Whereas there is nothing strange in a state governor visiting the number one citizen of the nation, especially during the festivities, but when a combative governor, who has been full of hate and bile towards the same President engaged in such an emergency visit, then one can hazard a guess about the emotional torment of the said governor.
Unlike other state governors who are even of the PDP extractions, it is on record that Governor Adeleke has never openly aligned with the President on his economic policy.
He and his horde of media propagandists have used every media space available to them to ridicule and belittle the President and his government.
There is no record of how Governor Adeleke has appealed to Osun State citizens to cooperate with the Federal Government on its nouvelle economic policy, as we have seen many sensible PDP governors often do to douse the tension engendered by the Federal Government economic reform policies that are now yielding dividends.
Rather the Osun State Government, in its steeped mischief, is reportedly recruiting field agents in rural areas to engage in door-to-door campaigns of calumny against the President and his ministers who are working assiduously to bring reliefs to the Nigerian compatriots.
The video of the pupils of Oba Laoye Grammar School, Ede-South Local Government Council Area of Osun State, ostensibly sponsored to call President Tinubu "Ole, thief" and other unprintable names sometimes ago is still trending in the social media.
We thank President Bola Tinubu for hosting the Adelekes in his palatial home. At least, it will be on record that when the governor is punished at the poll in 2026 by the angry university students, markets women and artisans whose Adeleke's poor management of the economy has impacted negatively on their well-being, he would not have any President to throw under the bus for his electoral misfortune next year.
University of Ilesa students who are coughing out N1.5 million as school fees yearly, for instance, can't wait to kick their troubler out of office in the coming election.
