Borrowing to mortgage Nigeria into more debts while lying shamelessly. Even JICA is seeking clarification for this borrowing. Terrible people in government.

The Federal Government has deepened its engagement with the Japan International Cooperation Agency (JICA) to advance the implementation of a ¥15 billion (approximately $110 million) emergency loan facility aimed at strengthening Nigeria’s food security.

This was disclosed in a statement by the Federal Ministry of Finance and Coordinating Ministry of the Economy on Wednesday following a strategic meeting involving the Minister of Finance, Mr. Wale Edun, the Honourable Minister of Agriculture and Food Security, Senator Abubakar Kyari, and senior JICA officials.

According to the ministry, “The Honourable Minister of Finance and Coordinating Minister of the Economy, Mr. Wale Edun, and the Honourable Minister of Agriculture and Food Security, Senator Abubakar Kyari, today met with senior representatives of the Japan International Cooperation Agency (JICA) to advance the implementation of the Food Security Emergency Loan Programme.”

"A Loan for Boosting Food Production and Resilience."
The loan, targeted at enhancing food production systems and increasing resilience across Nigeria, comes at a time when global supply chain disruptions and inflationary pressures continue to strain the nation’s agricultural sector.

“The JPY 15 billion facility (approximately $110 million) aims to Nigeria’s food production systems and enhance resilience amid ongoing global supply challenges,” the ministry stated.

With the 2025 rainy season already underway, the ministers stressed the urgency of executing core components of the programme to ensure timely for farmers and rural communities.

“Both Ministers emphasised the importance of swift, coordinated action to maximise impact for farmers and rural communities,” the statement read.

"JICA Seeks Formal Clarification."
JICA, in its response, reaffirmed its commitment to the partnership but requested formal clarification on proposed implementation changes.

It was agreed that immediate production activities would continue as planned, while other components, such as aggregation and financing, would be reviewed against the of the original agreement.

“JICA welcomed the government’s commitment to delivery and requested formal clarification on proposed implementation adjustments. It was tly agreed that core production activities would proceed immediately under the existing framework, while additional components, such as aggregation and financing, would be reviewed in line with the original loan agreement,” the ministry added.

The programme forms part of Nigeria’s broader strategy to address food insecurity, improve agricultural productivity, and stabilise the economy through sustainable partnerships.

President Bola Tinubu has written to the Senate seeking approval for a fresh external borrowing plan totalling about $21.5 billion under Nigeria’s 2025–2026 borrowing programme.

In addition to the multi-billion-dollar request, the President is also seeking the legislature’s approval for a loan of 15 billion Japanese Yen and a €51 million grant to key development priorities.

According to the letter submitted to the National Assembly, Tinubu explained that the new facilities are intended to generate employment, promote skill acquisition, foster entrepreneurship, reduce poverty, and enhance food security. The president’s loan request comes at a time of rising concerns over Nigeria’s growing debt profile.

Most recent figures from Debt Management Office (DMO) show that as of December 2024, Nigeria owes the Japan International Cooperation Agency (JICA) $53.31 million, representing 0.88% of Nigeria’s total bilateral debt and 0.12% of the country’s overall external debt stock. If approved, the new food security loan will likely push Nigeria’s debt to Japan to $163.31 million.

"2025 UTME: 18-Year-Old Student of Akwa Ibom School Scores 98 in 3 JAMB Subjects, Result Trends."

Eighteen-year-old Abasiakama Inyeneobong John, a student of Successfulville International Secondary School in Akwa Ibom, is trending on social media for scoring an aggregate of 371 marks in the 2025 Unified Tertiary Matriculation Examination.

While Harrison Essien, a journalist in the state, claimed the boy's result shattered a 10-year-old JAMB record and is the second highest since 2013, a 15-year-old boy who scored 372 still holds the highest result of the 2025 exam in the public domain.

From the flyer of Abasiakama's result, which Harrison shared on Facebook, Legit.ng observed that the lad scored an impressive 98 in three subjects, namely Mathematics, Chemistry, and Physics, and had 77 in English.

According to the journalist, Abasiakama is the grandchild of the late Mr. John Asuquo Udo, a retired principal of a public secondary school in Akwa Ibom. He added that the boy wants to study Mechanical Engineering at the University of Port Harcourt.

Harrison stated that academic excellence runs in the young adult's family and shared the UTME results of his siblings:"...His elder sister, Edima Inyeneobong John who also sat for this year’s UTME, scored 362, just like his junior brother Abasietimfon Inyeneobong John got 358 in the 2024 examination..."

Legit.ng has compiled the comments of some people on the boy's UTME performance below:

Essienubong Moses Umo said: "I give it to this school. "It is a good school. "My Nephew attended this school and had ed his SSCE and UTME excellently."

Aniekan Emmanuel Okon said: "Congratulations to the blessed family. God continue to protect and guide them."

Cletus Daniel said: "Congratulations to my grandchild, "Keep excelling dear, God be with you now and always."

Cecilia Etukudo said: "Eti ayen ado mkpo uto. "See how he brought the school to spotlight. "Congratulations to him, his family, school and the whole state 🥰.

"If he doesn't mind a Private University, please let him know that the Mastercard Foundation is calling him for a full ride scholarship at Pan Atlantic University. "Worthy to note, it is the best offer one can have here in Nigeria (well, except he has other offers abroad)."

Etimbuk Dicta Udom said: "Why always English? "This guy for score 390 if not for English."

EnyediEkaiko Prince Ikpe said: "Wow!! "This is awesome. "Congratulations to him."

Peace Ukpe said: "Wow, congratulations to the boy. Roman come and see so you will make mummy proud always."

Many congratulations sis. Some people are born genius while others acquire genius along the way in life.

This is the ugly development Tunji Alausa claimed was exam malpractice counter measures while destroying the future prospect of exceptional students.

One can imagine how many students have had their bright prospect botched by institutional failure Meanwhile he is yet to resign for that stupid statement as with an average Nigerian public office holder.

Obiora-Nwokedi Nmesoma, a candidate of the just concluded 2025 Unified Tertiary Matriculation Examination (UTME) has broken record as the student with the highest score in her school.

Nmesoma, a student of Queens Convent Awka, Anambra state, owned by the Anglican church scored 343 in the resit exercise scheduled by the t ission and Matriculation Board (JAMB).

She had scored 165 in the botched controversial version, which the exam body had blamed on technical glitches in the system. Many students were reportedly traumatized by the ugly development, including the girl that allegedly took her life.

Speaking exclusively to our correspondent, Principal of the school, Dr Martha Ibezim attributed Nmesoma’s feat to the school’s commitment to academic excellence and holistic student’s development.

She also linked the outstanding performance to the school’s dedicated faculty, state-of-the-art facilities and rigorous preparatory programs. According to Ibezim, the victory had not only secured the student a bright future, but had brought pride to the school, reinforcing its reputation as a leading institution for academic and personal growth.

She said: “Initially scoring a disheartening 165 in the exam due to reported glitches in the JAMB system, Nmesoma refused to let this define her. “When given the opportunity to resit the exam, she soared to an outstanding score of 343, proving her academic prowess and showcasing the exceptional preparation provided by her school.

“Nmesoma’s journey began like that of many ambitious students across Nigeria, with dreams of excelling in the highly competitive UTME to secure a place in a top university.

“A star pupil known for her consistent academic excellence, Nmesoma was shocked when her initial JAMB score of 165 did not reflect her capabilities.

“The low mark, attributed to technical glitches in the JAMB system, could have discouraged even the most determined student. But Nmesoma, fortified by the unwavering of her teachers and the robust academic foundation at Queens Convent Awka, remained undeterred.”
