Everyday, we see that the attempt to remove subsidy in 2012 was the right decision.

I am no er of GEJ, he allowed corruption ruin his regime, and drive off ers, and his handling of the boko crisis was bad...but the subsidy removal was the right decision. Too bad Buhari (who appointed Bawa) and tinubu and company and millions of Nigerians said no, NIgerians are poor...

Thomas Sowell said this about Nigerians, that we are short termist in thinking. This is why most NIgerians decided to oppose GEJ on subsidy removal, because most of them only think short term. Not long term.

If you are looking to the movie industry to portray your religion properly, you are going to have a long wait.

The movie industry deals in stereotypes. As a christian, I can tell you how Hollywood 90% of the time portrays christianity, christians , and the religion. And yes, we have done the above...tried , but at the end, Master Movies wants to tell his story, and stereotypes sell(They will even tell us to not watch if we no like am)

You should get muslim movie makers who will make films that portray your religion in the way you want it portrayed. The trick is doing it in a way that appeals to a mass audience

But it is going to be tough

Okay, I have looked for the actual comment...and here it is

"Women's reproductive health is about our life," she said. "It's about this whole complicated reproductive system that the least of what it does is produce life. It's a very important thing that it does, but you only produce life if the machine that's producing it — if you want to whittle us down to a machine — is functioning in a healthy, streamlined kind of way."

So, basically, what people are saying is that the Frau Obama or the Madame Obama stated that having babies is the least the reproductive organ of the womans does.

Well, the reproductive system is not just for production of babies, it first and foremost produces the hormones that make women well...women (That's why some women patients of the local gyny who need a hysterectomy because the fibroids are growing, and they really don't need to have any more kids to add to the seven they have already....say removing their womb makes them feel less of a woman). It is also responsible for keeping them in good health...which is why some women go on HRT when menopause comes...because otherwise they would be sick.

Note that Frau Obama or Madame Obama (as you will) then goes on to say that...

It's a very important thing that it does, but you only produce life if the machine that's producing it — if you want to whittle us down to a machine — is functioning in a healthy, streamlined kind of way

Which is kind of the comment you make when you are discussing reproductive health. Indeed...if I was discussing male reproductive health,...I would state that it is important the male reproductive organ is functioning in a good way.

The problem is

1. Most people have reduced the role of woman to giving birth.

2. Most people are ready to play politics with anyone's words...heck even people on the left consistently misinterpret what the right says. Like Trump's comment on covid...where he wished that there was a drug that could clear out the virus...like a disinfiectant...was misinterpreted by the media to mean that Trump was saying that you should drink disinfectant to cure covid.

Now here is the right doing the same thing with Mrs Obama's words.

What Madame or Frau Obama is calling for is that reproductive health must be prioritized so that women can give birth safely and without complications...which is what the UN, WHO, UNICEF, numerous NGO's , even some prolife activists, health ministers, and countless numbers of doctors and nurses...HAVE BEEN SAYING for decades.

But since many prochoicers use reproductive health to mean abortion (which basically is a small component of reproductive health...but propaganda is a cool thing)...many prolifers took reproductive health, and 'childbirth is least important'..to run with the idea that Mme or Frau Obama is somehow saying women should not have children.....or something.

And then the article promotes the false idea that Mrs Obama is a male.....a male that had two children, one of whom looks very much like her.....

The left and the right should stop hatred. It brings out the worst in them. Same goes for obidents, and tinubuites and many nairalanders on this site.

LOL....for the most part...YES.

Many African countries are broke. Nice capitals, until you go outside, and they are as broke as Nigeria.

The problem is , African countries don't want to do what China did to become a developed nation, they want to borrow money from China and sell their countries to China.

Chad recently had a new stadium built for them by China. The loans from that will soon be due... cheesy

How much is petrol in the Middle-east?

Many of those middle eastern nations produce far more crude than we do, and have populations far less than we do.

That's why.

A well managed NIgerian nation is a nation that uses its massive resoruces to make goods the world needs, not what Tinubu is doing...sharing oil money, and calling it renewed copium.
nairalanda1(m): 11:56am
themanderon:
Wicked souls. Most of them do not have crude oil in abundance like we do here and the poverty rate in Nigeria is pretty much extreme compared to these African countries he is comparing us to. I when the cefa used to be tissue paper compared to the naira but the crooks in power have terribly reversed this that the CFA is now miles ahead of our worthless currency.

Actually, most African countries are very poor, and many are even worse than Nigeria.

Like Ivory coast. Abidjan looks great, but step outside , and you will see massive povery. Ghana too as well. And so forth.

I am not saying that our government is doing well. Our government could do better. I am just correcting the idea that somehow African countries are all better than Nigeria.

Rich African countries are places like Botswana and Libya which have small populaitons, as does Namibia, and South Africa, Algeria, Morroco and Egypt which have diversified economies, and in Egypt's case, a massive tourisim industry.
nairalanda1(m): 11:50am
KingRex1:
Libya, Venezuela and Iran sell fuel less than 50naira per litre.
Angola, Egypt and Algeria sell fuel for less than 600 naira per litre

All oil producing and self refining. So what are you saying Mr Aliko??

1.Libya also produces the same amount of crude as we do, and the revenue is spread among a population of 8 million compared to our 200 million. That's why Ghaddafi had the money to do all those mega projects he was doing, and why they can afford subsides.

2.Venezuela sells fuel very cheap...and have a massively growing debt, a big smuggling problem, are so broke that they want to invade their neighbours Guyana and take their oil to sell for more money (so far the USA has told them to back off) and their refineries are all broken down or running under capacity

And they are run by Buhari and Tinubu, so the above is easily explained (wink , wink).

3. Iran subsidises oil...and a host of other stuff. They also have a debt as big as ours, if not larger. And the government wants to remove the subsides, but they are scared of riots...so, they keep getting broke on subsides (and it is not like they have the money, thanks in part to sanctions, but also resource dependency). Iran also has a massive fuel smuggling problem...especially to Pakistan.

4. Angola is going towards removing subsides. Angola is also broke and also has a massive fuel smuggling problem...to Namibia in particular.(Namibia is better economy and living wise than Angola by the way).

5. Egypt and Algeria have lesser populations than we do, and have far more diversifed economies (Egypt is essentially the world's leading tourism area...my opinion. Everyone has to see the pyramids and the temples plus archaeology is big time business over there, and the museums are centers of ancient history...and they still have artefacts in storage they haven't shown anyone..that if they bring them out, they will attract crowds from the world to see in minutes). So, they can afford subsides...and anyway, Egypt is going away from subsides (they have removed subsides on power for example.)

Nigeria cannot afford subsides.

Petro is not expensive in Nigeria but it could be cheaper based on the fact that we have crude oil and refine locally now.

NinjaMetahuman:
this is the only sensible comment on this post..

Those asking if we earn same as other countries don't even know that Nigeria has one of the highest purchasing power in West Africa yet has the cheapest fuel.

1. Dangote still has to import a lot of the crude he uses.

2. Also, extracting crude is expensive business. Very much so. At the end of the day, you are advocating that the people who bring out crude should sell it to you cheap so that you can get N100 fuel. That would not be possible

The elephant in the room is subsistence farming

Subsistence farming cannot feed a nation. Even without Boko and herdsmen and kidnappers, subsistence farming cannot feed a nation

What can feed a nation is large scale modern farming with application of science and technology. We need large scale commercial farms that can produce tonnes of food and have surplus for export

That is how the USA feeds itself , despite having less than ,4% of it's population farming.
nairalanda1(m): 4:51pm On Jun 05
People don't realize that the budget was benchmaked at 75 dollars per barrel, and since January oil has been below 60 dollars per barrel. That's part one of why we are taking this loan. And all this is a result of tinubu and buhari not diversify the economy.

But the second part is Nigerian agriculture is mostly subsistence. We can't feed ourselves from it even if there was no Boko or herdsmen issue. Even the herding of cows in Nigeria is very archaic. All that means low food production and as such imports and imports.

Apc has not sorted out both issues. Hence the loan.

Now imagine if efcc opens case files on tinubu, GEJ, buhari, obi and Obasanjo..Nigeria will be on fire. Fire.

If efcc must work, Nigerians must see that it is in their interest that their corruption laden leader is prosecuted. They must not see it as an attack on their tribe

MAYOWAAK:
There are three aspects of the “subsidy fraud”. One, a fuel importer could bring in 2000 metric tonnes and claim subsidy for 8,000 metric tonnes. “The mark-up will be shared down the line.” The money is just too much. Imagine the billions of naira available to be shared on a regular basis. So, the regulatory system is compromised and weakened.”

Two, NNPC always imports more than it has storage facility for. “So, the product is stored at private tank farms. If NNPC stores 30 million litres with your farm, you don’t have to for 30 million litres. There is a process by which you can for only 5 million litres as long as you know how to share the proceeds of the remaining 25 million litres with those who matter.” Ask yourself: how come our refineries have not been working for ages? Name another country that has four refineries that hardly work. Do you know how many emergency billionaires we have produced through turn-around maintenance contracts in the last 30 years?”

The third aspect of the fraud: “When they tell you the landing cost of petrol is N1,000 and the pump price is N800, it means the importer will get subsidy payment of about N200 per litre. Now, that is another fraud. There are different grades of PMS (petrol). They do not go for the same price. In the UK, for instance, the price of leaded petrol is different from that of unleaded. In Nigeria, we don’t distinguish between grades. We pay the same price. So, the landing cost of the lowest grade may be N900, but the importer still gets a subsidy payment of about N200 instead of N100 per litre. Do the math. Multiply that by millions of litres everyday and you will understand the fraud. too that the importers get paid for demurrage even if they don’t incur it. I can go on and on.”

To cap it all, I can tell you authoritatively that our daily PMS consumption is not as high as officially quoted. It is the biggest fraud ever. We keep calculating subsidy on the assumption that we consume 60 million litres a day. to always discount the official figures. It is good for your health.”

Since subsidy went , fuel consumption is now 50 million liters a day, half from dangote.

You summarized the whole mess well.

Whatever reason,he removed fuel subsidy as promised by him,Peter OBI and ATIKU.

You can whip up any narrative to suit your agenda

The fact is by August 2022, 90% of government revenue was going to service debts.

Also, because of chronic low oil prices since 2014, the government had been overusing ways and means to create money to pay for bills.Argentina used to do something similar and ended up with a debt so huge they were.defualting on their loans. And IMF exacted serious retribution for that.

That's why all three of them.said subsidy had to go. They knew there was no money. The reserve was also at an all time low.

NOI and SLS saw the storm coming in 2012 and tried to warn us. Hell, the IMF even was screaming at us in 1992 to remove subsidy, and we called them.western oppressors.

Something Nigerians should realize is that free government money always attracts corruption

Also, subsidy had to go because the cost of refining petrol always rises. Now technologies in refining are always coming in. Newer cars no longer use petrol that was refined in say 1980..because standards change. when dangote was saying his refinery refined petrol at E5 standard. Such did not exist before 1992. And there is even e10, and to that would cost money.

Even if we commot corruption, as we should, the price of fuel would keep rising because of the fact technology is dynamic. And so would subsidy costs.

And to cut subsidy costs we was importing subsidtandard fuel because it was cheaper to make. And thus subsidize. If we were importing standard, it would have been difficult to pay for subsidies

People abuse me and call me names for ing subsidy removal without realizing that it is not about oppression or ing useless government. It is not about keeping Nigerians poor. Petrol as is is very expensive to refine. Meanwhile, sane countries use tax revenues from income tax to subsidize fuel for the poorest of the poor. Nigeria wey 20% of revenue is from tax?

But call me oppressor, like the immature people you are. Be like you no want to face cold reality

People will see this and still be asking questions as to why GEJ wanted to remove subsidy in 2012. Why people like the NOI and SLS wanted subsidy gone. Too much crookery. And stopping it would mean war

( Tinubu removed subsidy because the cash was not there anymore, and IMF was fed up with us. No more loans. He did not remove subsidy because he was a strong leader as his propaganda people keep shouting)

I'm waiting for another Nigerian who'll create a virus that will hack the server of FBI. That person will be the most wanted man or woman on earth. By the way I have an idea of the kinda virus to use but what fails me is the required knowledge of creating one. You see I happen to have a very rich imagination. With that virus you can hack FBI's servers without being caught unless someone leaks your secret.

The FBI won't give her a job.

Plus FBI can hire people that are as good as the criminal themselves to do the same.job without being a former criminal . After all they caught her without using ex criminals

She will be deported back to Nigeria when time is up.
