Devaluing the naira was the problem, and the cause of all the shit that has gotten out of control. The naira is now tissue paper thanks to balablu. If the naira was kept stable at least till Dangote comes on stream, fuel would be around 500 today not 500x3.

So what is devaluing the naira called? Is that not FX subsidy?

If you have low foreign reserve earnings, where will you see money to maintain an artificial rate?

If tomorrow they peg the naira to a rate, we will still need to use your FX reserve to maintain that price. Then people aPetite for foreign goods increase, we pay the subsidy on it, then in 3 years, our FX reserve go back down and we are back to square one.

You can only peg successfully if you have the reserve to maintain it and source of income to steady the reserve. Nigeria only source is crude and we’ve used most of it to borrow into the future.

Bringing back the subsidy would be a big mistake. He has already set a precedent for other presidents to follow. In all honesty, things are very difficult but if the monies raised are distributed to the Local Government rather than the state governors, Nigeria will witness fast development.
