DiarisGodoo: What’s good with the move? Is there anything like environmental sanitation day in all the big cities of the world that you hear about? We must talk about corruption and government inefficiency please. It is the result of government not doing the proper things or putting the right measures in place. Is it not the time for government to engage the so called jobless youths? Is this not another way to create jobs for youths? Why not get contract them to do the cleanup and get paid for it? There are too many job seeking youths out there. Rather than pay, government officials prefer to embezzle the resources and belabor citizens with that responsibility. Or you do not know that sitting down at home for hours in the name of environmental sanitation is a waste of man hours? That was the reason why it was put to an end. A worthless policy introduced by the then crooked IBB regime to get enough time to sleep and shut down businesses on Saturdays. 1 Like |

For those shouting about covered drainages I can tell you for free that for most parts of Lagos badagry expressway way that have covered drainages, the gutters are filled to the brim and blocked with whatever, nylons cans, waste. How this happens I don't know. When citizens are dirty they are dirty , covered drainages or not. People that shit anywhere and everywhere. 2 Likes |

baralatie:Do you know how many trillions sanwo olu / your politicians steals everyday with just paper and pen? Yes houses will have to go down for such to happen, of which your government is over capable to do that and compensate the affected. Btw, what happened to the gold Costa highway they said they're constructing? Nobody is talking about it again? Lol |

ElevationD: In all the big cities in the World do they litter the ground and drainages with trashes and dumps like Animals? |

Kemetian: 6:12am On Jun 02 |
baralatie: Whatever it costs, they have no choice but to do it, or they have no business calling themselves 'megacity', 'Centre of Excellence' and all these pompous titles belied by filthy open gutters. That whole mentality of building roads without caring about pedestrians or pedestrian infrastructure like covered drainage and sidewalks, must go. It's a backward and primitive mentality. And this applies to the whole country, not just Lagos. |

olajay86: What is the essence of all the huge IGR and budget of the state? What of the LGA autonomy? Why can't they employ workers to keep all common areas clean regularly instead of forcing residents to do what they are already taxed for ![]() leavegoodbehind: 1 Like 2 Shares |

MoneyMan5: Nothing will happen. The govt needs to sensitise the population on the need for underground drainage as applies in every civilised country on Earth, and back it by force if need be. Or did they swear for you people to be backward in this country? Every day you travel to London, Dubai, America, China. Do you see any open gutter in those places? Zero! Do you see people walking on sand and mud beside the road, or are they walking on pavements? Pavements! This is basic infrastructure. Yet you are full of excuses for why it can't or shouldn't happen. Nobody can take you serious as a country if your cities are filled with open drains and no sidewalks. Go to South Africa and even Kenya and Rwanda and see how they build their roads. You will weep for this country. See Rwanda below, a country still recovering from genocidal civil war. You people should have small shame nau... Kigali, Rwanda, showing even bicycle lanes plus the sidewalk. ![]() |

Kemetian: You always blame the government when the citizens have a lot of blame too. Rwanda have open drainages but it is still very clean go to You tube and confirm, India have close drainages but many parts of it is still very dirty. When Nigerians travel to London, Dubai, America, China is that how they dump trashes every where and litter the ground and drainages with trashes like animals? You think close drainages will cover Nigerians dirty behaviors? even if Nigeria have cover drainages it may turn to another disaster with them using trashes to block the drainage and no option to clean it because it is cover which can lead to severe flooding, common manhole covers of Drainages in Abuja and Lagos iron condemned people won't stop stealing it, the only benefit Abuja have it is not as dirty as Lagos because it is very large and not as populous as Lagos state. Yes covered drainages is good but it won't cover Nigerian's dirty behaviors and it may even lead to another issues and pandemic |

Monthly sanitation is a few of those things the military got right during their subsequent governments. They instinctively knew that Nigerians had to be flogged to clean their own surroundings.

Kemetian: Watch this video of OPen gutter in Rwanda can a gutter be this clean in Nigeria, this is even in their capital https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=15q8CzNVcnU?si=emoRFCGHNW3GJBRo |
Kemetian: 6:48am On Jun 02 |
MoneyMan5: You are so wrong. First of all nobody can 'block' the drains if covered, because they have vents. Secondly, of course people will throw trash on the ground. That will be the job of road sweeper trucks especially in market areas, who will come at night and clear everything up in no time. You then place trash bins at various points along the pavements, and encourage the public to use them, and fine those caught littering the ground. After a while, the new system becomes the norm. There's nothing to it. |
MoneyMan5: 7:01am On Jun 02 |
Kemetian: You must not be a Nigerian for you to be saying this Who will pay the sweepers and workers wages? The PSP operators appointed by Lagos government they are not using them because of payments Most of the dustbins could be stolen or overfilled with no one ready to make payments for people that will come and pack it. If the government is very strict it is possible but you will soon see people starting a campaign against the government saying how they are too strict and further more Nigerians are just too corrupt, the corruption in Nigeria would creep into it and destroy any system. This country will only change the day Nigerians decide to be honest and selfless, our mentality in this country is too bad for any system to work. The system you see abroad works because there are very few dishonest and selfish people to destroy every system. |
ElevationD: 7:04am On Jun 02 |
MoneyMan5: Well for your information, all cities have litters on streets and drainages. The difference why you see them all clean is called GOVERNANCE. It is the duty of government to have agencies who handle them all. Government provide the resources used to purchase trucks and dustbins that are scattered all over the places. Government employs the workers that do the jobs and ensure proper supervision. They all do their jobs, picking refuse everywhere, cleaning the roads and ensuring that their environments are cleans and their communities and cities beautiful for habitation. That’s the job of government. That’s one of the reasons why you pay taxes. Oga, Lagos has LAWMA, just like other states have their equivalents. Ask yourself if all of them are efficient. Go around the entire length and breathe of the whole country and you will find the same story. Lawma does not have enough trucks. Lawma is understaffed. That’s the same story all over the country. Even their contractors must be clean first or understand what cleanliness is all about. Where in the whole world do you find places like Ojota’s olososun refuse dumpsite? What about the whole stretch of Lanre to General hospital along Igando - LASU road? Do not irresponsible leaders and those whose stock in trade is to swindle you, while you give them your , after collecting bribes. 1 Like |

MoneyMan5: So how come the system works in Abuja? If Lagos state govt is serious they can do the right thing. It's not hard. . |
MoneyMan5: 7:26am On Jun 02 |
Kemetian: Which system is working in Abuja? How many people is in Abuja? And have you been to where the real hustlers, the poor and the main population lives in Abuja? Not Maitama, Asokoro and Estates full of Mansions, in fact in Lagos too there are beautiful estates that are very clean you will see wastebins in Lagos estates, even in Abuja most markets for traders are still chaotic and dirty. You can not consider a system to be working unless it is working among the main population and most places where the lower income and middle income reside not just in some estates full of mansions and among the rich. |
MoneyMan5: 7:40am On Jun 02 |
ElevationD: cities have litters but the rate of littering in Nigeria is irresponsible and too much because Nigerians lack discipline and ethics, although the government is bad but I won't exempt the citizens too, the citizens are also very bad and they are the one that later turned to the irresponsible government. Where are the workers for Lawma and co going to come from ? Are they not from the same undisciplined and dishonest citizens? Japanese people are well known for their discipline you want to tell me Japanese litter at the same rate as Nigerians ? To be better you have to first it your shortcomings, Nigerians are very dirty people. There may be one or two dirty British but you want to tell me a British or American will be selling his/her ware in a location full of trash like we have in most Nigerian markets? British, Japanese, Korean, Americans, Chinese litter the ground indiscriminately like we do in Nigeria ? Take Nigerians out of Nigeria and move them to Japan, China, Korea, America in and move Japanese, Korean, Chinese, Americans to Nigeria In 5 years Nigerians would have turned those places to a cesspit and Nigeria would have became another first world developed country developed by Chinese, Japanese, Korean and Americans. |

MoneyMan5: All boil down to governance. Buhari/Idiagbon implemented “War against indiscipline”. Citizens sat up immediately. You could not urinate indiscriminately or through refuse anywhere you likes. People would not dare jump queues and everywhere was calm, until a certain IBB and his friend Abacha removed them. The country returned to its previous state. Lee Quan Yu, popularly called the father of Singapore, made it what it became today. One of the most beautiful countries on earth. There was instant punishment for open defarcation. There was instant punishment for dumping of refuse indiscriminately. There was instant punishment for crime. I urge you to travel to Singapore and see for yourself. Today, Singapore is better than Malaysia that it came out from. Infact I was on a queue one day at a KFC. There were about six of us on that queue. A Nigerian lady jumped the queue and tried to make her purchase. Everyone was aghast. First you must be disciplined at home, otherwise you will take your indiscipline to the public. Organize your children at home and they will organize themselves in public. Let the laws work effectively and see changes. Rwanda became what it is because of a certain Paul Kagame. Even our leaders go there to understudy and for retreats. Our problem is bad governance. Our problem is corruption. Citizens, yes because the vote for horrible leaders. But when election time comes, leaders don’t care, as they want the votes only. |

MoneyMan5: Mr Man Abuja has over 5 million people, Nigerians living inside it, including lower income people living in flats and bungalows. Not everyone in Abuja is rich and lives in a mansion. This stereotype of Abuja is usually made by those who’ve never been there or just stayed there a few days. The truth is that the city is filled with millions of ordinary Nigerians. Many of the estates are not even ‘luxury’ as such. If you can afford rent in Surulere or Ikeja in Lagos, you can afford to rent a nice place in one those estates in Abuja. And don’t mention those outskirts shanties. Those are towns with their own names, not Abuja. |
